Jon and Kate Gosselin
The internet is buzzing today with news that Jon and Kate Gosselin will be making a "life-changing announcement" on their TLC show, 'Jon & Kate Plus 8' this coming Monday. The obvious guess is that they are to announce their divorce (although I am secretly hoping they're announcing that they are quitting the show to work on healing their family). This afternoon, RadarOnline broke their 'world exclusive news' that the Gosselins will indeed be divorcing and will break the news to the world on Monday night.
The Gosselins have been under intense media scrutiny this year, thanks to Jon Gosselin's cavorting with coeds ten years younger than him and rumors of Kate's own infidelity with her bodyguard, Steve Neild. The couple have been hounded by paparrazzi and splashed on the cover of numerous magazines declaring that Kate's children think she is mean, that she spanks her children, that she and Jon spent their anniversary apart, and basically anything else that the family does (it doesn't help that they bring along their own camera crew to document their life for TLC - at a hefty profit).
So what will a divorce mean for this couple? Well, let's see: First, there's the obvious issue of custody. Who will get it, Jon or Kate? Will it be joint? Is that even a possibility since Kate travels so much promoting her book, leaving them in Jon's care much of the time anyway? What about child support? Who will pay whom? And finally, what about the 'Plus 8?' How will they handle it if Mommy and Daddy get divorced? I'm sure that if the news is true that employees of TLC are quietly weeping right now, thinking they are victims, but let's be honest and say that the real victims in this reality tv mess are those eight children.
I came across this interesting article on E! Online that answered the question of child support in the case of the Gosselins. Here are some possible ways this could work (per E!): "For the sake of explanation, let's just suppose that Kate gets custody of all the kids. In most states, the law puts a cap on the percentage of Jon's wages—around 40 to 50 percent—that he must pay in child support. The percentage for the first kid is usually 20 percent, and then it goes down from there with each subsequent spawn." In addition, " things might change if Jon, say, got a seven-figure deal to pen a tell-all book. In that case, his income would be so high that a good family lawyer would argue that—at least temporarily—he pay a lower percentage of his income in support."
Now onto the children. In a way, although I would never advocate for parents divorcing unless there is absolutely no chance of making it work, a divorce might be the best thing for them. Kids are intuitive and given the tension that radiates from Jon and Kate in photos and on the show, the kids are undoubtedly being affected by the strain in their marriage. It won't be easy to have to shuttle between Mom and Dad, but it is probably a lot better than listening to heated arguments and accusations.
Statistics show some alarming figures about divorce and kids, such as the fact that half of American children today will witness the dissolution of their parents' marriage and that children from divorced homes have more psychological problems than children who have lost a parent to death. Considering the fact that the Gosselin children have been living their lives in front of a camera and on tv for the last few years, I'd say that it's a safe bet they'll need therapy at some point anyway (maybe some of the income earned from the show should go into a therapy account?). If the show continues, it would be interesting to see how the children react to their parents' divorce. Then again, that would be such a travesty if the Gosselins opted to continue filming their children through such a difficult time.
It looks the world will have to wait until Monday to see what will happen to the Gosselins and their children. Won't it be funny if they just announce they're going on a big vacation or something like that? All this frenzy for nothing!

you feel bad for them but they chose to have those cameras in their family life. But you truly feel sorry for the kids their lives have changed from the change of the home to how their parents look. It makes you wonder what they will do after they don't get to travel for free and have someone their to always help them. I hope everything turns out good for the family and that they will all be happy.
Even at this stage Jon and Kate are trying to milk their family for ratings (I mean the way that Kate teases the viewers about this big announcement on Monday. Why not just go out quietly?) It's all about the $$$ for J & K.
Ok, here's the timeline as reported in the news.
1) First, Jon told Kevin & Aunt Jody he suspected Kate of cheating with the bodyguard Steve.
2) Some time later, Kate told John it's over, but had him sign a contract for him to stay on the show for season 5 and keep up the pretense of marriage. Supposedly the contract allows them to see other people and they would possibly call it quits by mid July.
3) Then Jon gets caught by the paparazzi hanging out with other women.
4) Then Kate goes on talk shows, plays the role of victim and faithful housewife for the media while giving weird responses like "he made some really poor decisions".
5) Then earlier this week it was reported that Kate was caught kissing Steve Neild by Mady while on vacation.
6) Suddenly with a day or two after that report it's announced that they are going to get a divorce.
Seems obvious to me that Kate pushed the divorce date up a month to cover her own infidelity to preserve her 'image'.
I think they are very strong people they have there ups and downs but everyone does. I love their show.they do yell at eachother and kate does yell at him alot and so does he sometimes. they are a large family and sometimes big familys do yell at eachother.
their kids are very sweet and they are a great family. i can't belive that they are divorced. but like they said on their show. " we need to have peace for our kids".kate said. And jon said. " we can't fight in front of our kids". he said that he dosen"t want to hate kate and she said the same thing.they are a great family and it's just hard to not fight when you have eight kids and camra's everwhere you go. they need to talk instead of getting a divorce. it will be very difficult for the little kids to. it will be a very hard seoson for them and also heartbreaking for the kids.
They are great people. And if I had to pick a side for what team to go on JON or Kate I wouldn't pick one I would start my own team the kids and I think that is the best one.

Jon and Kate have made a heartbreacking choose. Sorry I'm spelling things wrong. But It is true they do not need to tell the whole world about there divorce all they need to do is say that they will get a divorce to there kids. Now the whole world might make bigger lies about them. How will this affect the kids. On the episode where they were renoing there vows they promised to the kids that " Mommy and Daddy will stay together forever". Alexis asked " Forever?" and Kate said. " Yes honey we will never spilt we will be together always!" And on akte vows she said we will go on foe 90 years and jon just kindof hesitated and asked " nighty years?" But they always make jokes after she he aske dnighty years they all laughed. She said. " We'll I was just thinking that we would honey" And Jon said that when she was stressed he would ask can I help you honey?" on his vows. We'll they aren't together anymore!
I dont know if this is true or not but i was reading one of these opinons and it said that Kate was caught kissing Steve her bodyguard by Mady not that sounds like a lie I know Kate wouldn't somthing like that!!!
Now Kate said that he and her bodyguard dating is icky gross and pathetic and im going to stick with that one and jon said that that teacher and him were just freinds i dont know about that one right now!?!?
I am such a talker I made seven opinons already. I just like talking when I can. But I was wacthing the Insider a t.v channel that talks about celbritys and it said that they are shutting down there show and im like noooo i love there show and when i saw there first one i aws like wow this is a good show and then found out that it was a reality show and just started loving there show but now that there shutting it down i just start crying. Jon and kate dont shut your show down please im begging
I love jon and kate plus 8 and will never stop there show has ups and downs and now people make lies about them like crazy. Would the paperozie like it if they were getting told that they cheated on there husbind with there bodyguared NO!! And Kates crying cause of them its hard for them. And even more for the little kids i mean give them a break. I do not aprove of people lieing about people and it makes me sad that Jon and Kate got divoreced because they couldn't get along cause of the stress. Of the lies!!!!

I wont watch the show ever again if that HOME WRECKER of a teacher joins it.. NO WAY!! I love Kate & the kids my heart goes out to them. But Jon I cant stand w/his pierced ears & new sports car & now a new pad.. what next ?? Oh yeah the whore wants in on the show, is Jon that DUMB?? He doesnt deserve Kate or those kids.. I hope Kate finds a new love & he decides he wants her back & she tells him to go to HELL where he belongs!! I really dont think he tried hard enough to make it work & ppl need to stop blaming Kate for there problems she clearly doesnt want a divorce. I guess I can't blame the average person for not being able to grasp how much money ten million dollars is but guess what?? It is so much money that Kate and the children can have everything they ever wanted plated in gold and never work another day and they will still have money left. So please don't think she needs to do anything more to take care of the children because she doesn't.
I might watch the show still because I want to see how poor Kate is doing. She has been having a hard time with Jon and see how the kids are doing with their parents spilt. It will be very hard not to watch their show. Now that Jons gf is coming it might get kindof spicy with Kate. She will not take it well. And besides they are a great family married or not and I will not go on Jons side I might go with Kate but right now I'm going for the kids okay??
It will be very tough for Kate and Jon had no emotion on that episode it was like he didn't even care. And Kate started to cry. I was watching the Insider yeserday and it said Kate will not take of her wedding ring. I bet Jon might marry his ugly GF. They are not right for eachother. I thought Kate and him made a perfect couple they looked happy. They had they're little spats but thats okay cause they always said sorry. And then the headlines came out JON WITH OTHER WOMAN! I couldn't beleave it first thing I thought of was how would this effect their kids. THen he skiped Kate B-day to go help kids thats the nice part but also have a vacation with his girlfriend. Then people made a lie that Kate cheated too!! Nope I know that she wouldn't cheat. Jon is the only one that cheated. He said on the seoson permire " No I would never cheat on Kate!" Um.. we'll he um did if you didn't know that. So then finally its time for the announment. They were getting a divorce KAte cried and he did not!!
