According to a Jan. 31 tweet from Fox Sports reporter Marc Raimondi, hard-hitting UFC light heavyweight champ Jon "Bones" Jones (19-1) has picked the Denver Broncos to beat the Seattle Seahawks on Feb. 2 in Super Bowl XLVIII at New Jersey's Metlife Stadium.
Jones, 26, made the prediction in front of a live audience at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The UFC champ answered questions from fight fans during a special question-and-answer session at the UFC 169 weigh-ins, and one of the inquiries was about who he thought would win Super Bowl XLVIII.
Jones said he thinks Peyton Manning has the tools to get the job done against the Seahawks.
Jones, who has two brothers in the NFL, knows a thing or two about football.
Jon's older brother, Arthur, is an American football defensive end for the Baltimore Ravens.
His younger brother, Chandler, is an American football defensive end for the New England Patriots.
While Jones doesn't have any brothers playing in Super Bowl XLVIII, that didn't stop him from making his bold prediction during the UFC 169 weigh-in question-and-answer session.
Jones' pick shouldn't come as much of a surprise being that the Broncos are 2.5 point favorites to defeat the Seahawks at the Super Bowl XLVIII event in New Jersey.
Jones, who fights Glover Teixeira in the main event of UFC 172 in Baltimore, Maryland, also discussed a potential UFC superfight with Chris Weidman.
“I don’t want to offend him; I think he’s a great guy,” Jones said of Weidman. “But I’m a very confident young man. So I’ll just leave it at that.”
