Jon Huertas recruits ‘Castle’ co-stars for his music but will he sing on-screen?

Castle recently tapped into the musical talents of one of its stars-- Tamala Jones-- during their special noir episode, but it is another one of its stars that is actively pursuing music on the side from his acting day job. Jon Huertas has released original music through a dedicated YouTube channel, and now that he has seen first-hand just what his co-stars can do, he is roping them into his passion project, too.

“Seamus and I did this little blog, and he and I sang together, and people loved it, so now we’re going to be doing a thing-- it’s called “Playlist With the A-List,” Huertas excitedly announced to LA TV Insider Examiner over the phone last week.

“The band from The Tonight Show will be playing, and it’s basically like karaoke in a way, and it’s for UNICEF. They’re building a school in Africa,” he continued, talking about the special, one-night only event at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles.

“Me and Seamus will be together, singing. We’re doing an amazing song that I think will kill...We’re doing a cover; it’s a tribute to someone who passed recently.”

And Huertas isn’t stopping there. He plans to release another music video on his YouTube channel soon-- one that he describes as a “fun, fun up tempo song that you have to dance to.” This time around it is a spring break song, on which he collaborates with a rapper also signed to his music label.

The wheels of creativity are always turning for Huertas, who admitted that when he heard Jones sing in “The Blue Butterfly,” he knew he had to get her on-board with his tracks.

“When I heard [Tamala] sing I actually asked her if she wanted to do a duet for my album. She said she’s into it, so we’re going to do it!” Huertas shared.

“I’d love to do something with Stana, too.”

Lanie and Esposito aren’t together on-screen right now, but this might be a little something to tide over their fans, right? Neither Huertas nor Jones knew when the characters would be getting back together because they haven’t seen it in any scripts they’ve come across just yet.

“I think they’re pretty focused on work. In the next couple of episodes, the cases we have, they’re pretty serious,” Huertas said.

And honestly, Huertas pointed out that there is one pretty big obstacle for the couple to overcome:

“There was a scene that was played out on the stage but didn’t make it into the episode [where] we were having dinner with Ryan and Ryan’s wife and she asked ‘When are you getting married?’ And that’s a question that you just don’t ask!” Huertas laughed. “And we found out that it’s Lanie that doesn’t want to get married, and for Esposito it was kind of like ‘Why are we doing this if we’re not going to work towards that?’”

Still, there is love there, so perhaps Esposito can convince Lanie to rethink things by serenading her on-screen?

“The one idea I have [for Esposito to sing on the show] is him doing a karaoke episode where Esposito has to go undercover in this world of competitive karaoke. And either we find out that he’s been hiding the fact that he can sing, or they all discover it at the same time…It has to be something that would fit with the world and the story,” Huertas expressed.

Well, we think a song for the woman he loves, though not relevant to any case, would fit in its own way. How about you? Sound off in the comments below with what you think of Lanie and Esposito being apart and what kind of music you want to hear from Huertas next.

If you're here in L.A. you should consider heading out to the El Rey next month to see Huertas in person, but until then, you can catch him on Castle every Monday night at 10pm on ABC.
