Jon Hamm in trouble for going commando

Jon Hamm is under fire for forgoing underwear on the set of “Mad Men.” According to a March 19 report by the New York Daily News, the actor has been instructed to quit going commando for the sixth season of the show.

Plenty of celebs have been criticized for being caught without underwear, but it’s usually female party gals like Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, and Paris Hilton who cause a commotion by letting it all hang out. And occasionally a more upstanding star like Anne Hathaway will be spotted sans panties.

Jon Hamm doesn’t have to worry about any up-skirt photos being leaked on the web, but a source said this about the action “Mad Men” staffers took because of Jon’s commando look: “This season takes place in the 1960s, where the pants are very tight and leave little to the imagination. Jon’s impressive anatomy is so distracting that they politely insisted on underwear.”

It might be embarrassing to get reprimanded for failing to keep his package from flopping around, but Jon has to appreciate the use of the word “impressive.” The source even said that the actor’s privates are so prominent that it can be difficult to make promotional posters look tasteful.

But why does Jon need to cover up? Female viewers certainly wouldn’t mind getting a glimpse of his famous bulge every now and then. After all, male viewers get to ogle Christina Hendricks’ impressive cleavage, and she shows a lot more skin than Jon. It also seems very doubtful that staffers are calling for her to start binding her breasts or wearing a muumuu. Then again, if she went bra-less on the show, it probably would cause quite a sensation.

So maybe it is sort of fair to ask Jon to give his junk a little support -- at the very least, he could try wearing a loose-fitting pair of briefs to make it a little less awkward when his crotch gets close to a costar’s head. This probably happens a lot since he plays a boss who stands by his employees’ desks while they’re sitting down.

So what do you think -- does Jon need to quit going commando? Or can he do whatever he wants simply because he’s Don Draper?
