While The Twilight Saga: Eclipse director David Slade was originally in talks to helm Disney's book-to-screen adaptation of Ally Condie's dystopian Matched, it looks like G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon Chu will slip into the director's chair for it instead.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chu is now in negotiations for the job, which would pair him back up with his Step Up 2: The Streets and Step Up 3D producers Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot.
Matched tells the story of Cassia, a young woman who is all too happy to have her futuristic society's powers that be decide her romantic future via its systematic pairing process, until a glitch reveals that there may be more than one possibility for her romantic life after all.
The wildly popular book was followed up by two other installments, Crossed and Reached, and has been scripted by Michelle and Kieran Mulroney of Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows esteem.
Chu confirmed the news of his attachment to Matched on Twitter, writing that it's "[o]ne of the things I've been up to."
