Jon Bon Jovi and his family had to deal with every parent's nightmare last fall after his 19-year-old daughter Stephanie Bongiovi overdosed in collage dorm on heroin. On Thursday, Jan. 24 the Metro reported that the 50-year-old rock star and lead singer of Bon Jovi revealed that his daughter had used the drug in the form of a pill.
As previously reported on November 14, 2012 Jon Bon Jovi and his wife Dorothea received the terrifying call that their daughter Stephanie had been found unresponsive from a heroin overdose when medics arrived at her Hamilton collage dorm room in New York at 2 a.m. The call that saved her life was placed by her friend, Ian Grant, 21.
Bongiovi had less than 8oz of the drug, so police officials dropped charges due to a good Samaritan drug law introduced a year ago. The law helps to encourage people in such circumstances to call for emergency help without fear of being sent to prison.
Since that terrifying night Jon Bon Jovi and his family have remained relatively quiet on the matter opting to keep it a private family matter.
"It's human," Bon Jovi, 50, told Fox 11 one week after the incident. "What I do for a living seems glitzy and glamorous but if you don't take it too seriously it's a great way to make a living. And then life goes on. Things happen. This tragedy was something that I had to face too. So we'll get through it."
Jon Bon Jovi has now stated that his wife and family are now moving on with their lives proudly revealing that Stephanie is doing well.
"She’s good. She’s getting through it, Children don’t come with a manual. Every day is a learning experience and things happen.
"She’s healthy. The greatest gift that I have is that I have her. We’ll get through this. It was a shock for everybody and hopefully we learn from these life lessons. It was the first and hopefully the last time."
Jon is ready to put it all in the past and move on as well, he and Richie Sambora, David Bryon, and Tico Torres will be kicking off their 2013 Bon Jovi "Because We Can" tour on February 9, 2013 in Uncasville, Connecticut.
