'Jon and Kate Plus 8:' Kate Gosselin talks first week on 'Dancing With the Stars'

Former "Jon and Kate Plus 8" star Kate Gosselin is "learning to let herself go" following a rough first week on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars." The reality TV mom finished with a 16 out of 30 for her Viennese waltz, which only put her ahead of soap star Aiden Davis and astronaut Buzz Aldrin in the standings.

However, in a new post-show interview with Radar Online, Kate seems to be taking much of it in stride to this point. She talked about wanted to give people a more light-hearted perception of her than what they're accustomed to reading in the tabloids:

"I definitely strive to be me and when stories are made up and written about me that are totally untrue it is very hurtful...But I hope that people see in me that I'm a mom like everyone else, just working to provide for my kids -- I mean if you have to work, isn't this so fun?"

Then, in one of the funnier moments of the interview, dance partner Tony Dovolani even encouraged the people who hate Kate to call in and vote for her -- that way they can "keep watching and hating." With her scores the way they are right now, Kate will certainly need all the help she can get.

What did you think of Kate Gosselin's debut on "Dancing With the Stars?" Let me know your thoughts with a comment below and as always stay tuned for more of the latest "Jon and Kate" news.

Kate did an AWESOME job! Point your toes girl!!!

  • rosie 2 years ago

I think Kate did a great job, especially for someone who has never did this kind of dancing. It takes alot guts. Don't give up Kate!
I think she did far better than that slut Pam Anderson that looked like she was drunk or high & look more like she was having sex with her partner instead of dancing.

I love Kate! I was so nervous for her, I couldn't watch!!! But at 10p.m. Central I couldn't resist, I called my daughter and she had recorded. I know I could google it the next day. I thought she looked pretty and Tony is a sweetheart! Practice makes perfect Kate! I'm on Kate's Team!

  • Jillypoo 2 years ago

Kate was great. I mean geez she's one of the FEW contestants that's not used to THAT kind of an audience AND she has no dance training. Pam Anderson looked drunk or high and was sleezy but I'm sure sleezy men will keep voting her back. Buzz gave a good attempt and we love him for it. I hope Kate improves and stays around for awhile because I want Jon to eat his heart out. The Fool! Kate is the one that has acted like a true adult and Mother through the whole situation. Jon is acting like a teenager. I hope Kate goes far in to the competition but if not I sure do give her kudo's for having the courage to do it in the first place. CONGRATS KATE!!!

For someone who was so completely out of their comfort zone, I think Kate Gosselin did a fantastic job, and Tony Dovolani is an
awsome dance instructor. I felt the judges gave their critiques based on pre show hype along with the actual dance and in some cases they were extremely harsh.

Let go, relax and give it all you got! Leave your inhibitions behind. Congrats.

  • Jane 2 years ago

I think Kate did an awesome job and should be very proud of herself! I agree Pamela Anderson was either drunk or high but she made an absoulute fool of herself! Go Kate - relax - have fun and Jon EAT YOUR HEART OUT YOU FOOL!!!!!!!!!!!

Kate moved her GIANT FEET only three times - she didn't dance! She shuffled!

When she said that she danced for mothers everywhere, I barfed.

At least she's consistent - still a fake, and where she has no business being.

(Really - did you see the size of those gun-boats?!)

    Kate
Relax, let go and have fun. That is what is missing, I hope she gets to stay for a while and learns to loosen up.

"Kate the Shopping Cart" the judge said - heh heh! Accurate!!!
Wait until next week when they do the Cha Cha. She'll trip for sure!!!!
---it did look like she had huge feet. And I thinkshe put makeup on her tattoos.Shehas Pooh Bear on her cankles.

I cringed when she said she is doing this for moms everywhere. Moms everywhere else are at home helping their children with homework and reading them bed time stories. I also cringed when at the end she said her kids can now sleep easy. Hellooo kate, your children would sleep easier if they had the security of knowing that their mom was home with them at night instead of hired help. Yes, her children live in a mansion and have all the material "things" they could ever want. but at the end of a rough day can they sit in their mom or dad's lap and cuddle for just a few minutes? no, because their father is out trying to find fame and sex partners and their mother is now trying to be a famous dancing queen all in the name of doing it for her children and other mothers every where.I can see the headlines 10 to 15 years from now. the Gosslin boys following in their father's foot steps and the girls getting in trouble trying to fine love in all the

wrong places, and Kate blaming it all on Jon and Jon blaming it on Kate. No, wait it must be the media's fault. O.K., I will get a life now!

You did great keep up the good work Kate and I wouldn't worry about what all people are saying there just jealous keep up the good work!!!!

  • perfin 2 years ago

she can't dance. hope she is the first to go.................

  • Brandy 2 years ago

I am a mom that stays at home and is scared to dance. She is EXACTLY the person I would be dancing out there. I am so proud of her. No she was not the best, but she was the only REAL person there. It takes a lot to do what she did. She struggled more than anyone. She travels back and forth to be with her kids more. You want her to stay at home and tuck them in, what about all the other mom's on the show. GROW UP people. She is a good mom. She can make more in one show, than a year of work. She spends more time at home, than most working moms when is all said and done.

I think kate did an amazing job! she is an amazing mom people need to stop hating her and start opening her eyes she is doing what she can to make a living for her beautiful kids go kate u did amazing cant wait to see how you do next time hope you win!

I think Kate did a great job for someone who admittedly has never danced before. I will keep watching and voting for her. Relax and Have fun Kate!

  • christy 2 years ago

She was very bad. She finely realized that she is nothing. She should go home first.

  • Kate FAN 2 years ago

She was quite clearly terrified and thinking about "the steps."
    Shannen Doherty was really stiff.

I think it's ridiculous, and always have, to put professional entertainers like the Osmonds or Drew Lachey on the same stage as others ...

    It's not really a competition ...

  • Kevin 2 years ago

For an unskilled dancer, she did better than most moms. I will keep watching and vote for Kate. She is not one of the better dancers, but the talent is not evenly matched. Go Kate!

  • Beth 2 years ago

she did an ok job pretty much shuffled around, but so did the other celebrities who weren't all that good either. Yeah you can give her credit for trying this but in the end it will be her kids that are suffering in that only the nannies are there to take care them. After all they have and are going through, the people that really matter to them are not around taking care of their needs. But Jon & Kate will have to live with that and the repercussions of the divorce & and for the parents not being there emotionally for the kids. The kids didn't ask for any of this. She likes the fame and being a so called "celebrity" way too much...that hasn't changed no matter how much she says "this is for my kids" uh huh

  • ep 2 years ago

Go home where you belong. You have 8 reasons not to be away SO much. You do not work. You and the worthless so called father do not have Real paying positions.

  • Peggy 2 years ago

I voted for Kate and will continue to vote for her. She was very scared and nervous, and it showed. I give her all my support, it's a very hard thing to get up in front of millions of people and do something your not use to doing. Like I heard her say, she could be a nurse full time and not spend very much time with her kids. Atleast doing things like this she makes more money than being a nurse. I have a friend that is a nurse and only gets to see her 3 kids for an hour before they go to sleep at night. She feels bad but her pay is all they have. You go KATE you have my vote.

  • kprincess53 2 years ago

All these comments about her going home to her children is absolutely ridiculous! Did they say that to any of the other 'mothers' who have competed in the past? No one said it to Marie Osmond and we all know what ended up happening with one of her sons!. (And I don't believe Dancing with the Stars was responsible for his death.) I'm not a "Kate Lover" but if that's all you can find to bash on... Why not bash on Pamela Anderson whose claim to fame has far exceeded it's run. Did ya get a close-up on those bleary eyes?

  • Ellie 2 years ago

I thought their pink costumes were gorgous! And the words to the waltz she danced to was a beautiful expression of her life! I think she is so inspirational to mothers everywhere! Does she get paid for being on the show? Does anyone know how much?

  • Wiz 2 years ago

For those who voted for Kate, because she is Kate, DWTS has come to a new low. The show is about DANCING, not who is running for prom queen. If you voted for Kate vs those with much more talent you voted against the show. I wish her good luck and nothing bad, however the show is about the performance, not who is running a publicity champaign and try to get back in the headlines.

  • Dana 2 years ago

I have always & will continue to support Kate! All this talk about her being home more with the kids might be possible if douche bag Jon was doing his part to help support the children financially...someone has to do it! I guess she could stay at home & let the state take care of her & her children (like Octomom)...that would really give you something to talk about...then she would be a horrible mom for NOT going out & getting a job. Face it, no matter what she does, there are those who will ALWAYS find some reason to hate on Kate. She is an awesome mom doing the best she can given her situation...before you open your mouth to judge another, try walking a mile in their shoes! GO KATE!

Kate has a stench that is worse than any garbage dump.
