Jon and Kate Plus 8: Kate Gosselin on 'The View,' day 1

Kate Gosselin fills in on The View

Kate Gosselin was a pig in slop today when she appeared as a co-host on ABC's The View this morning. Kate was filling in for Elizabeth Hasslebeck, who is on maternity leave. Guests on the show were Victoria Beckham and Dr. Mehmet Oz.

Kate Gosselin has been rumored to be shopping around for a talk show of her own so certainly this was a big moment for her. So how did she do?

Not bad, actually. But that's mainly because she kind of stayed in the background, and seemed a bit (understandably) intimidated. Kate and the ladies dished about the Taylor Swift/Kanye West incident at the MTV VMAs, Serena Williams' U.S. Open outburst (which Kate defended as she could relate also being in the "public eye") and she had plenty to say when the topic of big families came up during the "Hot Topics" segment, and of course, when the conversation turned to Jon and Kate's divorce.

Kate defended her and the Gosselin children remaining on television, as she's a "single mom" and has to provide for them. When questioned by Joy Behar as to why she even threw herself into the public spotlight in the first place, Kate replied:

Season 1 to Season 5 is a totally different world. When we started, it was an innocent... you know, first of all, TLC and Discovery has never had a show that has done what our show has done. So when they first came to us and said, "Hey, let's do this little documentary," and we were like, it's cute, and you watch all the little things on Discovery and you say, that's just precious, those little families... [but] do they have paparrazi following them? Chances are no... We slowly eked into this... Every job comes with a price.

When asked if she's paid enough to make it worth it, Kate looked coy and said, "Is anybody paid enough?"

Kate also confirmed the story that she had a breakdown this past weekend when Jon said he was going to bring Hailey Glassman to their house.

Did you watch Kate on The View? What did you think?

    BORNING! BORING!

  • Unviewable from now on 2 years ago

"Pig in slop" perfect description of Kate Gosselin. NO, I didn't watch and will never watch again. Since Kate and all the drama she brings is the type of guest The View is looking for, they certainly don't want me as a viewer.

I watched the show, and though Kate was a little gun shy. But once she was in it, she came though it very well. and no, it wasn't at all boring.

Saw bits and pieces of the show. Unless the topic was Kate, Kate didn't have much to contribute. I can't believe she thinks she and VB have anything in common! One is a raving beauty, talented singer, A-list celebrity raising a family in relative normalcy and the other is none of those. I did think it was amusing to watch Kate stoop to the Octomom's level when she criticized Michele Duggar. The Duggar's were blessed by God, J&K had to manipulate nature.

I think Kate did a great job! I like Kate and her show. You guys are too critical of Kate.

I felt a little embarrassed for Kate. She wasn't welcomed and introduced respectfully. They ignored her. Usually they treat guest hosts better. The only other time I can remember The View ladies being rude to a guest host was when that Ross the Intern hosted with them. That time Barbara was there and she was really rude.

Kate is taking liberties with the English language again! "Eked into"? What????????

  • Another Mary 2 years ago

Thought she did fine both days and will again since they asked her back for a 3rd. Really? Eked is what got ya? Wow. Thanks for watching tho!

  • hola kitty 2 years ago

No, 'eked into' got me. Eked is a fine word and I just like to see it used properly. It didn't bother you at all? Wow.
I didn't watch it, I read about it over at a View blog.

I absolutely abhor Kate Gosselin and everything she stands for and I particularly hate the people who try to defend her as 'only a mother trying to make a living' she is simply a pimp and arrogant and mean! Which says more about the people that admire somebody such as Kate: terrible people
