Former "Jon and Kate Plus 8" star Jon Gosselin is apparently only looking to drop out of his TLC lawsuit for one reason: he doesn't have the money to continue. According to TMZ, Jon's offer of allowing the kids to resume filming is not necessarily an olive branch; rather, it is a move of desperation. Since the TLC contract itself bans the reality TV dad from making public appearance, he doesn't have many ways of obtaining extra money right now outside of obtaining a real job. Even if Jon does return to the IT business, it's not likely that a five-figure salary will be able to cover both child support and legal bills.
Unfortunately for Jon, TLC doesn't seem that willing to roll over thanks to his new offer: they only way they will reportedly drop their suit is if they can ensure that Jon abides by his contract for the remainder of its term. That means Jon could make no TV appearances or say anything to bash the network for a good while. While this may ultimately save him a massive amount of money in the short term, it also could keep him from making any money as an entertainer for quite some time. (What will the world do without "Divorced Dads Club?")
