The end draweth nigh for Jon and Kate, and the 8 (photo: TLC.com)
The "JK8 Snarky Commentary" articles aren't designed to be news on the always-unfolding carnival of shenanigans revolving around Jon and Kate Gosselin, but rather an opportunity for the Comedy Examiner to shoot a little snarky commentary in their direction. After all, what good is it having a standup comic around if you're not gonna have him be sarcastic about pop culture from time to time? Today's news concerns the supposed end of TLC's long-running, long-annoying series, and what we can expect from its two stars. Read on for the commentary, snark enthusiasts and gentle Examiner readers...
It's been some time since we've weighed in on the various goings-on at Gosselin Manor; The Comedy Examiner's simply been too busy to get involved with all that racket. However, the email requests have piled up, so we're back with some snarky news on America's favorite couple (to be annoyed by):
Jon and Kate Gosselin will sit down together for the final episode of their TLC series, Jon & Kate Plus 8. Jon, 32, and Kate, 34, will open up about the recent events since their split earlier this year, the point which they transformed from a run-of-the-mill reality TV family to tabloid superstars. The divorcing couple will also address their future projects, as well as what they have planned for their children.
That's from a Radar Online article talking about the show's rumored ending. We say "rumored" because, really, do we think this merry-go-round is ever going to come to an end? Even if these two branch off into brand-new TV "shows" (we use that term loosely in relation to the Gosselins), they're essentially "Jon and Kate Plus 8" spin-off's, watered-down versions of what's come before. Also, there's this:
In addition to the meeting between Jon and Kate, footage of Kate's trip with the kids to a dairy farm and a firehouse will round out the final broadcast of the show, which has run on TLC since 2004.
The last episode of Jon & Kate Plus 8 will air on TLC November 23.
Ha-ha, TLC, you almost had us there! Going to wrap-up the show on the 23rd of November, huh? We'll believe that when we see it. For a moment, let's assume that this is the end, that we'll never see another episode of "Jon and Kate Plus 8", and--
Hey! Calm down! Stay focused! We know you're excited, but please, finish reading the article before you start running around in circles, clapping. Besides, that makes you look foolish. We've got snarky commentary to deal with here, people. We were saying: let's assume that TLC's telling the truth, and that the November 23rd broadcast will be the end of "Jon and Kate Plus 8". Do we really need to "round out" the broadcast with a super-fun trip to a fire station? Or a dairy farm?
If they're truly reuniting Jon and Kate Gosselin to talk about their failed marriage, public shame, and future therapy bills for their children, shouldn't that be, y'know, the focus of the entire episode? Of course, we're no TLC Executive in Charge of Programming. What do we know? But it just seems like a full hour of those two confronting one another would be a far more appropriate and fitting end to the series than watching some cows get milked and someone sliding down a fireman's pole (no Kate jokes, please).
Jon and Kate talking oughtta be interesting. As we've all seen lately, Jon's been a bit-- shall we say-- wound-up as of late. Like when this occurred:
What's the over-under on Jon walking out of the final interview with Kate? We wanna get in on that action. While we wait for this sure-to-be-overhyped event, let's take a moment to remember all the good times that we've had with the Gosselins over the past few months: all that snarky commentary, all those video embeds of Nancy Grace pwning Jon on "The Insider" (we're including it below, just for posterity), all those hot-sauce bottles featuring Jon and Kate's likeness that some reader sent us as a "thank you" for all the Comedy Examiner's hard work mocking these two. It's been a strange, fun ride, my friends. And it's almost over.
Who's bringing the beer?
