Jon and Kate flashback: Red, White and Gosselin (VIDEO)

Jon and Kate Plus 8: Red, White and Gosselin

Being Independence Day, it seemed like a good time to reminisce about a Jon and Kate Plus 8 episode from two years ago, titled "Red, White and Gosselin".

On this episode from Season 2, Jon and Kate round up the kids to head to Jon's hometown of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, for their annual 4th of July parade. Of course the episode had its drama, and viewing this particular exchange between Jon and Kate over which jackets to bring along has an interesting perspective watching it with the hindsight of knowing that they're now getting a divorce:

Kate: Did you get play jackets?

Jon: Yes.

Kate: Or nice ones?

Jon: Red, white, and blue play jackets, it's 4th of July.

Kate: Every single person has a red, white, and blue jacket? I don't recall that we owned that many.

Jon: We have... we had 2 red fleeces, and a red zip up...

Kate: Can you show me what you have please?

Jon: Can we leave please!?

Kate: I don't trust your judgment.

Jon: Oh my goodness... I'm sick of it.

Jon and Kate both earn some viewer sympathy later in the show, however, as the kids get tired and cranky from going so far with their "walking rope." Watch the whole episode below:

Kate is a tough manager, has to be, with 8 children. Jon is clueless & irresponsible. This divorce is merely another demonstration of his immaturity. He needs to man-up & accept his responsibilities to the family he helped create. Doing the TV show & supporting Kate is a huge part of that. Kate runs that household very well, I cannot envision Jon doing such. If Jon was unhappy with Kate's book tours & spending time away from home (all done to earn money for the family), there are numerous ways they could have worked the issue out rather than resorting to divorce. Why didn't Jon make arrangements for his own tours & speaking engagements? He could have seized the opportunity to be seen as a role model for dads everywhere. People would have looked up to him. Instead, Jon's immaturity & preference for spending his time with college-aged girls, fancy cars, & silly pursuits rather than working with his wife to raise their family has finally taken its sad toll.

Kate is strong, she needed a strong husband who could pull his weight along with her. Jon is clearly not that - he is indifferent, passive, clueless, & disinterested in his own family which he helped create. I wish both Kate & Jon well, but this divorce is going to leave huge scars on the most vulnerable involved, the children. I hope the show remains on the air & that it mostly focuses around Kate & the kids. I really enjoy watching Kate & how she runs her household & manages her family. Jon's new lifestyle will probably regress to that of a college frat boy, not interesting, & so sad for him.

What are you nuts? Jon is a regular Joe, if a tad arrested. Kate is a merciless shrew. Her kids are not immune, either.
