Spring is just around the corner. The sun is starting to shine and the temperatures are finally rising above freezing. Are you just as excited as I am? Northern Indiana hasn't seen the grass on the ground since Christmas Day. It looks like we will be able to unveil the grass this week as the snow finally melts (for now)!
Why not take a lesson from the snow and start melting! If you haven't already been active this winter, get out of your hibernation rut and get moving.
Even though our fat can't melt away as easily as the snow, it can shrink in size with dedicated effort. Keep in mind that burning fat is a particular challenge at certain times. Just like the snow which hasn't budged since late December, you will have similar experiences in your fitness journey. But if you stay consistent and keep moving, eventually that fat will burn away...just like watching the snow melt.
Best Ways to Melt Away Fat:
1. Interval Training - a type of physical training that involves bursts of high intensity work. This high intensity work is alternated with periods of rest or low activity (the intervals in interval training). This continual adjustment of your heart rate helps your body shed fat.
2. Eat Right - At meals, half your plate should be fruits and veggies. A quarter of your plate should be a lean source of protein. The last quarter of your plate should be a form of a 100% whole grain.
3. Resistance Training - Building lean muscle on your body not only increases your metabolism but it also helps your body burn more fat in the long run. Don't make the mistake of skipping out on resistance training. Cardiovascular exercise helps your burn calories, but resistance training helps you burn fat in the long run while also building strong bones and shaping your body.
