I used to say "I'm not ready to be gray" with a head filled with grey roots mocking the fact that "I" wasn't ready. Whether I was ready or not my hair had turned pretty grey. So I did what any baby boomer who grew up as a bit of a hippie would do, I bought henna from Yemen on-line and began the primal battle of "cooking and curing" the henna 24 hours before I used it. It was a disgusting, uncontrollable mess that involved mixing and slopping this "stuff" on my hair and then letting it stay on for 10 hours, which meant going to sleep with my head wrapped up in a post surgical chic. It was an awful messy process and my hair kept kept getting darker and blacker month after month. Black velvet was what I had and I imagined a flowing reddish mane. To be perfectly honest, I looked like Ozzy Osbourne... Boy, I was really fooling everyone... grey? me?? HA! Never...The grey would have looked far better than the Ozzydo...
So my next stage was to buy organic hair coloring in a health food store and do it myself. Now, the picture on the haircoloring box of a 20 year old girl with gorgeous shimmering "Chocolate Fire" shoulder length hair was downright the work of the devil. There is NO WAY that my hair would EVER look anything like that. The picture in MY mirror showed dried out/frizzy hair far too dark for my coloring. Things were going from bad to worse! I went from my Ozzydo to looking like the love child of Elvis and Amy Winehouse .... I was lost... BUT now I am found.
