Join the Don't Mess with Texas Trash-Off

You tell your kids not to litter and teach them to sort the recycling. These are great ways to introduce green living, but you can also show your kids first hand why they should take responsibility for their trash. For a hands-on lesson in protecting natural beauty, sign your family up for the Don't Mess with Texas Trash-Off. This annual event is a collaboration between Keep Texas Beautiful and the Texas Department of Transportation. As part of the Great American Cleanup, the Don’t Mess with Texas Trash-Off volunteers cleared over seven million pounds of trash from Texas highways in 2012, up from six million in 2011.

This year’s Trash-Off is Saturday, April 6th, with local events held throughout the state, set to coincide with Keep America Beautiful's National Day of Action. Though Keep Texas Beautiful does not have a Dallas event listed, nearby suburbs such as Carrollton, Irving and Richardson have events planned for the day. Search the Keep Texas Beautiful calendar for local event details. This event is best for families with kids who are elementary age or older.
