Food Network star Giada De Laurentiis will be kicking off The Third Annual Food & Wine Festival with a few of her friends--over a dozen of the city’s most accomplished Italian chefs. Those dishing up their specialties will be Gino Angelini, Evan Funke, Ori Menashi, Zak Pollack, Tal Ronen and Fabio Vivinai and others, not to mention a host of wineries .
But save some room because that’s just a nibble of the four-day culinary lineup that runs from Thursday August 22nd through August 25th at its new venue near the Disney Concert Hall along Grand Avenue between 1st and 2nd streets. The collection of activities includes caviar tastings, cheese seminars, mixology sessions and over two hundred wineries pouring the best of the best.
A full-fledged Asian- style night market on Friday night August 23 is headed by Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto. Among the Market’s top names you’ll find Charles Phan of The Slanted Door in San Francisco, Kris Yenbamroong of Night + Market, the Kogi Truck, Chris Oh, Bryant Ng, Ricardo Zarate and radio host chef Jet Tila (Thaitown tour and The Charleston).
It’s rare that you can sample the artwork of so many talented local chefs alongside an amazing group of nationally-known talent at a single venue. But the Lexus Grand Tastings held at L.A. Center Studios has done an even more spectacular job this year to bring us gastronomic sensory overload (in a good way) with a collection of such luminaries as Michael Ginor, Tracy des Jardins and David Lefevre. Several dozen wineries accompany the food along with Lexus Live on Grand hosted Saturday by Curtis Stone and including performances from the Los Angeles Opera Company.
These extravaganzas are not entirely about hedonism. The event supports Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry® campaign. The foundation works to end childhood hunger in America by helping fund school meal programs and effective nutrition in schools.
