Join Shakira’s virtual baby shower with UNICEF

Colombian singer and songwriter Shakira and FC Barcelona soccer star Gerard Pique are inviting their fans to join them in a virtual baby shower in which, instead of presenting their baby with gifts, contributions can be made to help needy babies around the world.

With beautiful pictures of a pregnant Shakira, as well as a video in which both of them speak, the couple explains their desire to help children living in difficult conditions around the world and how they hope to get that accomplished through their association with UNICEF.

Besides pictures of the couple, the page offers “inspirational gifts,” which are actual products that UNICEF can distribute to youngsters around the world. Five dollars can purchase a mosquito net, which can keep a child safe from malaria, and a few dollars more can keep children free from polio and malnutrition. The most expensive gift costs $110, for a particular type of pasta made from peanuts that can save a child from starvation.

“Every couple awaiting a child,” said Shakira on a press release, “is, like us, full of dreams and hopes for the baby. However, many of them do not count with the same opportunities to provide them with a happy childhood free from preventable and treatable diseases. Together we can change that.”

When you visit the virtual baby shower you are able to tell your friends about it through social media. After you purchase an “inspirational gift” you will receive a thank you note from Shakira and Gerard.
