If you've been following my adventures this week, you know that I'm at Cabana Bay Resort at Universal Orlando Resort for the Diagon Alley media event. The bad news is that I don't have a review of the new Gringotts ride, as I didn't get a chance to try it out. The good news is that I tried out literally everything else, including the Hogwarts Express, food and drink at the Leaky Cauldron, the new shows, and Ollivanders Wand Shop. I even got to tour Gringotts bank and also meet and chat with one of the goblins in the money exchange (yes, you can exchange muggle money for wizarding currency). I even got my pwn wand to cast spells. It was amazing!
I have so much to share, but the event is still going strong so this is just a quick check-in with a slideshow to whet your appetite. Click through it to see a hodge podge of Diagon Alley scenes. It truly is a magical place that will delight Harry Potter fans just as much as Hogsmeade did when it opened back in 2010...and perhaps even more so, since technology and experience has allowed Universal to up the bar even higher. Even the original area is benefiting from the technology. For example, not only can you cast spells in Diagon Alley if you buy a special wand, but you can also use the same wand to make magic happen in Hogsmeade.
The official opening date is July 8, so if you want to be one of the first to see Diagon Alley, you'll want to head out this summer. Otherwise, wait until the fall when the crowd has died down a bit. Although there likely won't be much of a true off-season for Diagon Alley because of the number of worldwide Harry Potter fans who are eager to see it, things do slow down a bit once kids in American schools return to their classes.
