Join a ranger-led hike up Sandstone Peak: Dec. 10

For those who have not yet hiked up Sandstone Peak, this weekend is a great time to get out there.  A ranger will lead a group of hikers to the summit on Saturday, December 10th at 10AM.  Along the trail to the top, hikers will learn about the geological history of the area as well as other fun factoids.  There should be clear views and cool temperatures this weekend, for an excellent hike.  Sandstone Peak is the highest summit in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, so the views are expansive.

Meet at the Sandstone Peak Trailhead at 10 AM on Saturday, December 10th.  The hike is free and should last approximately four hours.  Wear sunscreen and sturdy footwear. Be prepared to climb just over 1,000 feet on this six mile loop.

To get to the trailhead, take PCH to the far west end of Malibu. Make a right on Yerba Buena Road (just past Neptune’s Net Restaurant) and drive up Yerba Buena for 5.5 miles to the Circle X Ranch ranger station. Continue past the ranger station (the closest bathroom to the trailhead) up for another mile, then turn left into the Sandstone Peak trailhead parking lot.
