Johnstown snow sports conditions: weekend of January 11, 2014

Bitter cold temperatures had everyone avoiding the outdoors on Tuesday. Now the weekend is here and the temperature has warmed up. However, the weather is looking like a wash out on Saturday. But you can still take advantage of the warmer weather and hit the ski resorts this weekend with Sunday looking like a great day.

The forecast for the Johnstown area and the Laurel Highlands is looking pretty wet for the beginning of the weekend. Today’s grey skies will be giving way to some sun this afternoon, but the rain will be moving back in by midnight. Rain and fog are expected throughout the day on Saturday. A flood watch is in effect for most of central Pennsylvania for Saturday. The rain should taper off and turn back to snow showers very early in the morning hours on Sunday. The forecast for Sunday is for partly sunny skies. High temperatures are expected to be near fifty on Saturday and in the mid-thirties on Sunday. Overnight lows are expected to be around thirty both Saturday and Sunday nights. Needless to say slope conditions could change this weekend since the warmer weather will prevent snowmaking until next week.
