It is hard to believe that February is half over. Yesterday morning I heard the songs of some of the early returning birds. Even now, the signs are there that spring is on the way. However, Johnstown area skiers and boarders should not fret because there is still a lot of good skiing left this season. So take advantage of the long Presidents Day weekend with snow showers in the forecast throughout the weekend and enjoy the slopes.
The forecast for the Johnstown area for this weekend looks like another good one for skiing or snowboarding. Except for Sunday, daytime temperatures are not expected to be too cold and overnight temperatures should allow for snow making to enhance nature’s own snow showers. High temperatures today should be near 40 with highs on Saturday in the upper 20’s, on Sunday in the upper teens and in the mid 30’s on Monday. Overnight lows are expected to be in the low 20’s tonight, in the teens on Saturday and Sunday nights and near freezing on Monday night. The wind chill could come into play on Sunday with winds being forecast between 10 and 18 mph. Snow showers are possible throughout most of the weekend beginning this afternoon into the evening. Some snow showers may linger through Sunday with a brief break Sunday night and Monday before returning Monday night. Little or no accumulation is expected in the lower elevations from these snow showers. Snow showers may be more numerous in the higher elevations or in the Laurel Highlands.
