The winter continues to slip away. While we are still getting some cold temperatures, the days are getting longer and the landscape is coming back to life. Birds are returning from points south and it is only time before we say goodbye to the 2012-2013 ski season. However, there is still some fun left this year. So get out and enjoy yourself this weekend at one of our local resorts.
There are plenty of activities going on this week. You are sure to find something for everyone at one of our resorts. And the forecast is a great one for snow sports. Here are some happenings at our local resorts this weekend.
- Hidden Valley is presenting its second and final Subaru Master the Mountain Weekend on Saturday, February 16 and Sunday, February 17. Come out and improve your skiing and boarding skills. The program goes from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. both days. Hidden Valley is located about 50 minutes southwest of Johnstown
- Nemacolin Woodlands is having their Presidents’ Day celebration this weekend. Mystic Mountain will be open 9:00 a.m. until8:00 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday. They will also have plenty of other activities off the slopes for the entire family throughout the weekend.
- Seven Springs is celebrating its 26th Annual Winterfest beginning this weekend. The celebration begins today and lasts through next Sunday, February 24. There are plenty of activities for all ages both on and off the slopes. This includes The Arbor Face-Off Amateur and Open Rail Jam on Saturday, February 16 and Sunday, February 17. Weather permitting they will be offering snowshoe tours Tuesday, February 19 through Thursday, February 21. They also have the Roller Skating Party on Monday night from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. and Tube-A-Palooza at the snow-tubing park from 6:00 until 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19. There are special lessons programs throughout the week and family movies. Check the Seven Springs website for a complete list of activities and a full schedule. This celebration is presented in partnership with WTAE-TV. Seven Springs is located about 55 minutes southwest of Johnstown.
- Whitetail near Mercersburg has two great activities this weekend. Tonight they will be holding their Rockstar Sick Trick Competition. The competition is open to boarders and skiers of all ages with a valid lift ticket. Registration takes place from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. this evening with the competition beginning at the Jib Junction Terrain Park. On Saturday, February 16, come out for the Torchlight Parade and Bonfire at Whitetail. Any skier or boarder 10 and older that skies or boards at least an intermediate level can participate. Other can just come out and watch the parade. If you wish to participate, you must register between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. at the Marketplace. The parade will begin at 7:00 p.m. While waiting for the parade to start, stay warm by the bonfire beginning at 6:15 p.m. Whitetail is located just a little over two hours southeast of Johnstown.
