Johnson County inmates will be receiving health care from a new provider as of December 2013, reports The Daily Journal.
Starting in December, the private firm, Advanced Correctional Healthcare will become the medical care provider for all inmates at the Johnson County jail.
Previously, health care had been provided by Johnson Memorial Hospital. They decided that they will end their contract with the county this year, though no statement was given as to the official reason for this decision.
According to The Daily Journal, the county will pay $397,000 for Advanced Correctional Healthcare’s services annually plus another $100,000 for other costs, such as medications not provided by the company and emergency hospital visits.
Advanced Correctional Healthcare is a national private firm providing health care to correctional facilities. According to their site, “we take pride in delivering a higher standard. In providing care. In managing risk. In containing costs. When we make a promise, we stand by it.”
