Johnny's Italian Steakhouse, Hotshots Craft Hotdoggery, and Fernando's Mexican Grill have all made news in recent days. Here are the details.
Johnny's Italian Steakhouse has a third Metro location in the works. The Midwest chain that already has restaurants near the airport in Des Moines and east of Jordan Creek Mall in West Des Moines will begin construction on a location in Altoona near Bass Pro Shops this fall. The Altoona restaurant will be part of a proposed 175-acre development called The Shoppes at Prairie Crossing. The restaurant should open sometime next summer.
Hotshots Craft Hotdoggery burst onto the scene this spring, giving Western Gateway and Downtown diners a tasty new option for lunch. Now, just a few months in, the restaurant is giving back to the community. Hotshots announced via their Facebook page that they now offer a monthly Charity Dog. One dollar from the sale of each Charity Dog will go to that month's selected charity. September's charity is the Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity, and this month's Charity Dog is a beef frank, nacho cheese, caramelized onions, green apples, and green onions on a pretzel bun.
Fernando's Mexican Grill has opened at 2316 University Avenue in the Drake neighborhood. The restaurant features made-to-order burritos, tortas, quesadillas, tacos, and other items. Fernando's is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The restaurant does not yet have a website or Facebook page, but you can contact them at (515) 255-3700 for more information.
