Johnny Manziel gave fans quite a show during the recent Monday Night Football preseason game as the Cleveland Browns played against the Washington Redskins. In the moment, Manziel flipped the bird to the Redskins bench and thought he got away with it but an ESPN camera caught the gesture and it went viral. On Friday, NBC Sports reported that the NFL won't be ignoring the obscene gesture and they have fined Johnny Manziel to the tune of $12,000.
Manziel can fight back though and appeal the amount of the fine. Manziel's salary is $24,075 per week and per NFL rules, since the fine is more than 25 percent of his weekly salary, he can ask that the amount be lowered.
Johnny Manziel joined the Cleveland Browns this year as the 22nd pick in the first round of the NFL draft. Many expected the Texas A&M star to be the Browns starting quarterback right away but that is not the case. Earlier this week, Cleveland Browns coach Mike Pettine announced that Brian Hoyer has landed the starting role.
That won't keep Johnny Football from getting his time in though. The team is talking about working this season with a two quarterback system and alternating playing time between the two quarterbacks while Manziel learns the ropes in the NFL. While Pettine has said that both Hoyer and Manziel are both great quarterbacks, Hoyer will be starting in week one against Pittsburgh because he has experience in the NFL already.
Don't count out Johnny Manziel though. He is talented and determined with a strong fan support. Odds are, it won't be too many games in before he takes the help and leads the Cleveland Browns.
