On Sunday February 26, 2012 runners and walkers will meet at Johnny Mac’s House of Spirits located at 208 Main Street in Asbury Park. They will check in for a unique run along the Jersey Shore. This will be the second year of the popular run.
After checking in, they will walk across the street to the Asbury Park train station and catch the 10:58 AM Train going south toward Bay Head.
Runners will be given the option of running or walking anywhere from 1 to 8 miles.
The first stop will let the first group of runners and walkers off in Bradley Beach where they will have a choice of routes. Either head east to the ocean front boardwalk make their way along the Bradley Beach Promenade thence into Ocean Grove and through the old Casino building into Asbury Park and then head west along the Wesley Lake back to Main Street and Johnny Mac’s a distance of 2.6 miles or head north on Main Street directly back to Johnny Mac’s which is a distance of almost exactly 1 mile.
The second stop will be at the Belmar train station where runners will get off and head east to the Belmar Boardwalk and head north over the bridge into Avon along the boardwalk there into Bradley Beach and the promenade there and then into Ocean Grove past the Great Auditorium on the boardwalk and through the Casino building and head west along Wesley Lake back to Johnny Mac’s which is a distance of about 4.5 miles.
The final stop will take runners into Spring Lake where they will get off and run east to the boardwalk there and then into Belmar and follow the route as above for a total distance of 6.5 miles.
Runners can add an additional mile at their option by running to Asbury Park Convention hall and then head back toward the Casino building and then head west along Wesley Lake to Johnny Mac’s.
Upon their return at Johnny Mac’s the participants will be treated to a Pizza and Beer (or soda) party. There will be lots of random awards and giveaways. All pre-registered participants will get a quality long sleeve shirt.
The event is a benefit for the Jersey Shore Running Club’s Asbury Park Youth Program and the Mount Carmel School in Asbury Park.
According to Vicki Hoagland of Allenhurst, NJ one of the organizers of the event, “this will be a fun event and will help support a worthwhile cause.”
