The Jersey Shore Running Club held its Winter Train Run on February, 23, 2014 in Asbury Park, N.J.
Runners gathered to check in and register starting at 9:30 a.m. at Johnny Mac House of Spirits located on Main Street in Asbury Park directly across from the Asbury Park Train Station.
It was a bright sunny morning unlike the past few weeks of cold, blustery and snow filled days. It was a near ideal morning for a run and a large crowd of over 200 runners participated in the bi-annual event.
At about 10:30 a.m. the runners started to make their way over to the train station where they gathered inside the main waiting area. They received last minute instructions before heading through the tunnel to the platform on the opposite side of the tracks to wait for the 10:58 a.m. south bound NJ Transit Train – labeled for the event Snowball Express.
The train was right on time picking up the runners who wore bib numbers to identify themselves along the route. It was just a few minute ride to the first stop where the first group of runner disembarked in Bradley Beach. The train then proceeded to Belmar where the second group got off and finally to Spring Lake where the reaining runers hopped off the train.
Each grouo then proceed back toward the boardwalks and ran back to Johnny Mac House Of Spirits.
The Bradely Beach group ran about 2.5 miles, Belmar about 4 miles and Spring lake about 6.5 miles.
After arriving at Johnny Mac’s the runners were treated to a beverage and a choice of a custom omelet or pizza. Lots of random awards were presented to te participants and they partied away the rest of the day.
The event benefitted the Mount Camel School located on Asbury Park.
