Johnny Depp slated to star in two new movies: 'Black Mass' and 'Transcendence'

Our favorite character actor is staying busy (as always) starring in two new movies which will begin filming shortly. Last week Johnny was even spotted in western Washington, but who knows which movie this is for.

Last week, the Internet was abuzz with news of movie star Johnny Depp (Captain Jack Sparrow in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series) being spotted in Carnation and later at the Salish Lodge on Snoqualmie Falls. Read more about the sighting here.

"Transcendence," is one of the many movie projects Depp is involved with, and is expected to begin filming in April, with Jack Paglen penning the script. Stars joining Depp are Rebecca Hall and Paul Bettany.

Alcon Entertainment has announced that British actress Rebecca Hall has bagged the lead female role in the movie Transcendence. Upcoming Iron Man 3 star Rebecca Hall will play the lead in this major project led by Johnny Depp. The 30-year-old actress was chosen over Emily Blunt and Rooney Mara to play the wife and colleague of a particularly brilliant scientist. Paul Bettany will also star in Transcendence, although the part he will play has not yet been revealed. Read more about that here.

"Transcendence" is rumored to be about a scientist whose brain is uploaded into a supercomputer he created, although official plot details are being kept quiet.

Update!: Irish actor Cillian Murphy will star alongside Johnny Depp and Morgan Freeman in Wally Pfister's “Transcendence,” a film about a scientist whose brain is uploaded to a supercomputer in order to create a thinking machine. Depp will play the scientist and it is reported by the Irish Independent that Murphy will be one of the other two male leads.

Murphy is no stranger to the cinematic genius, Wally Pfister, who will take his first shot at directing for the film. Pfister is an Academy Award winning cinematographer who set new standards with his work with Christopher Nolan in films like the Dark Knight Trilogy and ‘Inception’. Murphy had a role in ‘Batman Begins,’ ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ and ‘Inception,’ giving Pfister a familiar face to shoot.

After "Transcendence", Johnny will star in "Black Mass" as Whitey Bulger. "Black Mass" is about the true story of Billy Bulger, (Whitey Bulger) and FBI agent John Connelly and the FBI's witness protection program that was created by J. Edgar Hoover. It is directed by Barry Levinson, the biopic is inspired by the book,"Black Mass: The True Story of an Unholy Alliance Between the FBI and the Irish Mob".
