On Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, designer John Varvatos invited friends, family, press and fans to join him in celebrating the release of his first book, "John Varvatos: Rock in Fashion." With help from Holly George-Warren, John writes to express how the evolving styles in rock have influenced fashion and pop culture over the past five decades. Varvatos notes he grew up with rock and roll and speaks on how much the music has influenced his own fashion sense and design over the years.
Held at the John Varvatos Soho Boutique on 122 Spring Street, the event featured DJ Bob Gruen for the music and vibe. Varvatos welcomed celebrities Dylan Walsh, Mick Rock, Fern Mallis, Diego Klattenhoff and many more for an evening of music, art and remembering how he got to where he is today through rock and roll. Guests enjoyed special cocktails made with Patron, Apple cider and maple syrup while conversing and skimming though Varvatos’s new book. Inspiration was all over the place through artwork, familiar rock and roll faces, music and in fashion.
John graciously signed copies of his book and took pictures with those interested so that the night would not be forgotten. John has clearly proven that he grasps the connection between rock and roll and fashion through his designs and many rock and rollers would agree. According to Joe Perry, “John not only understands the importance of rock and roll in fashion, but he lives and breathes it heart and soul, and he never forgets where it comes from.” This only speaks more to the passion and dedication John has put into his fashion designs.
