John Stevens – A most important senior Aikido teacher returning to the Bay Area

John Stevens Sensei, 7th dan and noted Aikido writer and scholar will return to the Bay Area for a class/workshop on Monday, February 6th. This will be held at ITP’s dojo in Palo Alto, CA.

He will be a guest of Robert Frager Sensei, 7th dan, and the Western Aikido Association. The class will be from 6:00-7:30 with a $35.00 mat fee for those visiting.

Stevens Sensei, featured many times before in this column, will no doubt share his insights into the the many facets of Aikido and O Sensei that he has explored and written about over the years. Hopefully, the class will include more information into The Founder's thought and development through his calligraphy.

A list of his literary accomplishments would include, “The Heart of Aikido: The Philosophy of Takemusu Aiki” by O Sensei; “The Essence of Aikido” by O Sensei; “The Secret Teachings of Aikido” by O Sensei and Moriteru Ueshiba; “The Spirit of Aikido” by Kisshomaru Ueshiba …all of which were translated by Stevens Sensei.

He has also translated “Dewdrops on a Lotus Leaf: Zen Poems of Ryokan,” “The Aikido Master Course: Best Aikido 2,” “The Art of Aikido: Principles and Essential Techniques” by Kisshomaru Ueshiba and Moriteru Ueshiba.

And he has authored “Zen Bow, Zen Arrow: The Life and Teachings of Zwa Kenzo, The Archery Master from Zen in the art of Archery; “Abundant Peace – The Biography of O Sensei;” “Invincible Warrior: A Pictorial Biography of Morihei Ueshiba;” The Art of Peace: Teachings of the Founder of Aikido” (the small sized edition of this book I’ve carried in my Aikido bag for the past eighteen years and which I had signed only last year!).

And a new biography of Jigoro Kano, the Founder of Judo, which I wrote about here last November, will be published soon.

Please join what will be a remarkable evening with John Stevens Sensei. Aikidoists and martial artists of all schools and traditions are invited to attend. For more information, please contact Eddie Frager Sensei at info@bridgetownaikido.com.

Thank you John Stevens Sensei for your continued work bringing peace to the world through the Art of Peace.
