District Judge Rodney Hartman fined John $1,000 and ordered him to serve 3 months in prison starting on March 31. However, John may get out of the jail sentence if he files an appeal. His lawyer, Steven Breit said that is what they plan to do and they are going to request that John be placed under house-arrest instead of jail.

After the hearing, John’s lawyer, said, “You should be punished for this type of conduct. But, driving without a license is not the crime of the century. It’s being treated that way.” Steven went on to say, “Why should he languish in Lancaster County Prison? House-arrest is a viable alternative.”

PennDOT originally suspended John’s license. Over the next several years, police stopped John on other occasions, and was charged for driving with a suspended license.

Apparently, John’s arrest will be incorporated into the show, “Amish Mafia” Court officials said that the film crew was outside the courthouse and at District Judge Rodney Hartman’s office. John not only plays Esther Schmucker's brother on the show, he is her brother in real life. While John isn’t filming “Amish Mafia”, he lives with his family in North Dakota.
