John Noble previews potential heartbreak for Walter by 'Fringe's' end (Photos)

Walter has certainly been through the wringer over the years on Fringe, and this close to the end of the series, surprisingly, things are getting a little easier for him-- even if they may get much worse as the fight to defeat the Observers reaches its breaking point.

FOX already released an emotional clip (see below) of Walter revealing his memories have returned to his son Peter (Joshua Jackson) from the next all-new episode "The Boy Must Live" but there is so much more to come, even in three short episodes.

"Fringe is essentially a love story, so the close moments he had with Peter or even with Etta or Astrid were special to me," Noble said, reflecting on the series as a whole.

"We know there's something [extraordinary] that has to happen in order to beat the Observers, and I think by now it's becoming clear Walter has to do something pretty outstanding to make this happen. More importantly, what you'll find is the way his relationship with Peter plays out is really quite remarkable, and that's something we had to do. I know the fans love the relationship between Peter and Walter so much. We really paid homage to it."

Noble admitted that he really did get some "beautiful moments" with Jasika Nicole and Anna Torv, as well, because it is the relationships between the characters that Noble feels made Fringe work as well as it did. Walter has a big arc in the next three episodes that the series absolutely "will pay out" and therefore require moments of closure between him and his whole team.

"I think we finished the series off as well as we could have," Noble said, acknowledging once again the fans and critical support over the last five years.

"It's certainly going out with a bang! I read it, and I said 'Oh my goodness me, he's done it; he's done it. He's answered all of these questions-- certainly the questions that I had. I hope history will judge it as one of the best finales."

Fringe airs on FOX on Friday nights at 9 p.m. "The Boy Must Live" airs on January 11th 2013.
