"Sleepy Hollow" has easily become one of the fall's best new shows, already receiving the go-ahead for a second season before the first has even finished airing. But it's about to get even better because "Fringe's" John Noble is joining the cast in Monday's "The Sin Eater," and on Thursday, Oct. 31, he spoke to the press about what his character is bringing to the show.
In this next episode of "Sleepy Hollow," Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) goes missing and Abbie (Nicole Beharie) seeks help from the mysterious Henry Parrish (Noble). "He's a reluctant sort of a savior," the actor previewed, explaining that the first time we see him, "no one has any idea who this character is" and it all begins with a knock on the door. "He has this ability in a sense to remove evil from a person, hence the name Sin Eater," he told reporters. "Even though he doesn't want to, he's called into action, basically to save Ichabod's life. …He's incredibly reluctant to speak to [Abbie] and to help her find Tom but he does and then ultimately—and we don't know why he does this—but he actually turns up at the place and goes through a ceremony or a procedure—and hence the term Sin Eater—to remove the evil from Tom's character at great cost to himself. So he basically saves the life of Ichabod Crane in that episode and hence the term savior."
Unfortunately, Noble revealed that he's only in a couple of scenes of "The Sin Eater," but fortunately, he will be back for three more episodes of season 1—and "probably…next year for quite a lot." And it will be in these coming episodes that we'll learn more about the mysteries of this mystery man. "I think as time goes by, those revelations will be quite a shock to the other characters and to the audience," Noble teased.
The actor also touched on what has made "Sleepy Hollow" a popular show so early on, even though only five episodes have aired. "What's amazing me about it is it feels like the perfect combination of all the favorite genres," he shared. "It's fantasy and it's science fiction and it's horror and it's historical and it's also sort of almost procedural in a sense so it's like the writers have just linked them all together incredibly cleverly and the look of the show is fantastic."
And if you enjoyed seeing John Noble on "The Good Wife" and were sad he was killed, he's going to be back. "They're brought him back in for more interplay with Alicia," he teased. "It's a lot of fun."
"Sleepy Hollow" season 1 airs Mondays at 9 p.m. on FOX. "The Sin Eater" airs Nov. 4. Check out the promotional photos and a sneak peek featuring John Noble in episode 106 to the left, and if you haven't already, read what Tom Mison had to say about what's coming up next.
