John McCain claims he "never supported amnesty"

June 23, 2010

Fox News reporter Jennifer Steinhauser recently spent a few days following Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) around Arizona, on his re-election campaign. Not surprisingly, the topic which voters continue to hound the Senator on is that of illegal immigration.

During a town hall meeting at a North Scottsdale library, a man named Richard Martin railed against McCain, saying: “We all know what happened after 9/11. Why didn’t you close this border down? Where were you, Senator?”

Steinhauser reports that over the three days she spent with the McCain campaign, the most commonly asked question was why he supported amnesty for illegal aliens.

McCain’s answer…“I never supported amnesty.”

WHAT?

As one of the keynote speakers at the 2004 conference, he told the zealous crowd: "It is in our national interest to bring the 8 to 12 million undocumented immigrants out of the shadows and allow them an opportunity to become citizens of this great nation."

Of course, McCain has not only supported amnesty, he wrote the Amnesty bill!

The 2007 McCain-Kennedy Comprehensive Immigration Reform Amnesty bill would have merely required illegal aliens to pay a $5,000 fee in order to stay here and gain legal residency. The fact is that McCain places the same value on American citizenship, at roughly the same cost as a 2003 Volkswagen.

Under McCain's bill, even members of Mexican drug gangs would have received amnesty by simply signing a statement in which they renounced their gang affiliation, the so-called 'background checks' that illegal aliens would have received were only of the 24-hour variety, which reveal very little (if anything), and they would have then been given a six-month worker card. Even violent members of MS-13 would be given legal status based on nothing but their promise to become upstanding citizens.

In 2008, Republican Presidential candidate John McCain told the crowd at annual National La Raza Conference: “I don’t want to fail again to achieve comprehensive immigration reform.”

Of course, “comprehensive immigration reform” is nothing more than code for amnesty for illegal aliens.

After the massive illegal alien protests in 2006, in which millions of law-breakers demanded their ‘rights’ and trampled upon American flags, McCain made the following statement: “If such demonstrations continue, I think we will have a bill for the President to sign soon. The more debate, the more demonstrations, the more likely we will prevail.”

John McCain has spent the last quarter-century in Washington D.C., and for many of those years, he has spent his time working on behalf of illegal aliens and the unscrupulous companies which hire them. He has also sat by and watched as thousands of Americans were murdered, raped, and robbed by those same illegal aliens.

It is only since J.D. Hayworth began gaining ground in his primary challenge to McCain, that the Senator started taking a supposed tough stance on border security.

Until he loses the Arizona Republican primary on August 24, McCain will continue to pretend that he is a tough conservative. However, as much as he would like to, he cannot hide from his own record on illegal immigration.

People supportig McCain should consider they're backing a bald-faced liar. How can they live with themselves backing someone who is such a pompous liar?

McCain's rationale for "never having supported Amnesty" is his thinking that charging $500 each illegal for legalizing them somehow removes the "Amnesty" label. But Arizonans have a clear choice this go 'round and Hayworth is that man.

Yep this guy is surely a bald-faced liar!
I can't believe he is actually making this claim.

  • Debbie T. 3 years ago

Meg Whitman is doing the exact same thing. She claims she is against amnesty but is spending millions of dollars on Spanish radio ads to get the Hispanic votes. She wants a new immigration plan that will legalize all the illegal aliens in the country. Again, these politicians are not working for "we the people", they are working for the enemies of this nation and our freedoms.

    Legislative history
The bill was a compromise based largely on three previous failed immigration reform bills:

the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act (S. 1033), a bill proposed in May 2005 by Senators Ted Kennedy and John McCain, sometimes referred to as the "McCain-Kennedy or McKennedy Bill"
the Comprehensive Enforcement and Immigration Reform Act of 2005 (S. 1438), a bill proposed in July 2005 by Senators John Cornyn and Jon Kyl, sometimes referred to as the "Cornyn-Kyl Bill"
the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006 (S. 2611), sponsored by Senator Arlen Specter, which was passed in the Senate in May 2006 but never passed in the House
The bill's sole sponsor in the Senate was Majority Leader Harry Reid, though it was crafted in large part as a result of efforts by Senators Kennedy, McCain and Kyl, along with Senator Lindsey Graham, and input from President George W. Bush, who strongly supported the bill. For that reason it was referred to in the press by various

Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaJump to: navigation, search
Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act ("McCain-Kennedy Bill", S. 1033) was an immigration reform bill introduced in the United States Senate on May 12, 2005 by Senators John McCain and Ted Kennedy. It was the first of its kind since the early 2000s in incorporating legalization, guest worker programs, and border enforcement components. As United States immigration debate unfolded in Congress and in the field during 2005 and 2006, the bill became a landmark legislation that was often referenced by most parties of the debate to indicate support or opposition to a certain kind of immigration reform that incorporated the three components. The bill was never voted on in the Senate. The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006 and the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007 are two additional compromises based on the original McCain-Kennedy bill.

Well said, about the fraud McCain is pulling about not supporting amnesty; didn't we shut down the capitol Hill switchboard for a bill named McCain-Kennedy? (2006)

I lived in Poenix and Tucson; (way too hot) so i've been sending my money to JD Hayworth's campaign to help him get the word to the voters of Arizona who apparently have some support for this awful candidate (John McCain). It was his refusal to hard campaign against Obama, that gave us this fiasco of a president. We have a teleprompter reading community organizer who plays golf and gives us images of oil boiling from the gulf of Mexico and reminds of Jimmy Carter.

Everybody in this world knows that McCain is not being true to his statement. He should teach himself and all his republican peers to be true and passionate to every word that comes from their mouth. They should have sympathy to these poor people who are aspiring to feed their families (undocumented). I bet they won't come to the U.S. if they are capable of meeting their basic social needs. I believe in the universal law which is "do good to others so others reciprocate the same goodness or even greater" ; "Karma" "Confucious principle" . If you forsake your brother you will also forsake yourself. The world is round and life can change anytime. If you comment against all these principles, I guarantee you that you will have a very miserable life, if not you, maybe your love one (family or relatives)

John McCain has become a disgrace to the U.S.

He has Flip Flopped on Immigration.

He can not distinguish good people from bad.

He dosen't care if families are torn apart.

He doesn't care if thousands of Legal "Citizen" Childrens live are ruined.

He has Publicly stated after Health Care Reform that: "He would not co-operate on any other issues for the remaining nine months left in the year of 2010". On this isssue he has for once stood by his convictions! Even though this is Treason/Insubordination to the United States of America!

President Obama has tollerated far too much of this type of absolute Treason to his Admninistration!

McCain thinks he is a Duke or Duchess? He is not!

He should have respect for our President, and our Country!

Try going to work "IN the Real World", and telling your Boss that you are not going to work for the remaining nine months of the year!

Please let me know haw that works out for you!

    In the "Real World"!

The lack of Responsible and "Humane" Immigration Reform has Crashed America's Economy!

January 2008 = Start of the E-verify Law, and the I.C.E. Deportation/Incarceration Programs. Of America's hardest most Devoted Workers!

January 2008 = Start of The "Worst Recession in U.S. History"!

    This is No Co-incidence!

The States that Deported their hard working Tax Base, as Census Counted all along for nearly thirty years the same as "Citizens" to base the Total Size of our State and Federal Government on, are now in total disaster!

Besides having massive excesses in Government, and Budget shortfalls that match, these good hard working Immigrants vacated dwellings have left States OVERBUILT, completely Halting both Const. and Growth, this has cost most Americans to lose everything they've worked for, and cost millions of American jobs!

A very wise 1840's French Historian said: "America is great because it is good, when it ceases to be good, it ceases to be great."

Oh, come on. I don't beleive it. John, "Americans wouldn't pick lettuce for twenty dollars and hour", McCain, really said he never supported amnesty. Are we talking about the same John McCain of the McCain, Kennedy amnesty bill. The same McCain who has gone around blue collar Americans, asking for their votes and then betraying them? That McCain?

  • Bobby 3 years ago

Nichols, I believe you have gone off the deep end. The American economy has crashed because Americans see the sham AMNESTY IS, and won't allow it? Are you a part-time science fiction writer?

  • Kathleen 3 years ago

Anyone who wants to confirm how vile John McCain really is should ask the 9/11 Family Members about his out-of-control, nasty reaction to them when they visited congressional offices.

I have to believe McCain and his sidekick, Lindsey Graham, are laughing behind our backs, convinced that we really believe their 180 degree about-face on amnesty, open borders, and every other pro-illegal program both have endorsed or supported.

I may not be a fan of J.D. Hayworth's. However, I definitely see McCain for the self-serving career politician he is and anyone - including Hayworth - is far better than McCain. He must be defeated. We can not allow him to makes fools of us once again.

Juan MCCain is a sellout and has no problem supporting racist anti-white groups like "La Raza". The question to ask is why he hates America so much?

  • smc 3 years ago

Who cares about Johan McCain -- he is irrelevant. King Obama plans giving mass amnesty by executive order with the stroke of his pen. This is the current understanding of how it is going to play out. Of course it makes sense -- he needs it. And the massive number of votes from these illegals will have been bought in time for the 2010 and 2012 elections. And Obama will be POTUS for life. That's his plan -- clear as day. Wake up America -- what taxpayers think doesn't matter to Emporer Obama -- stop being so patient and expecting him to be anything other than what he is -- a thin-skinned bully -- just like the rest of the world's dictators, past and current.

The only thing good about not passing immigration reform 3 years ago is that today Mccain would be the president of US. Conservatives missed the point.
and they are still missing it...

    David Nichols:
"The States that Deported their hard working Tax Base..."
Dave, illegal aliens are filing Arizona tax returns and getting the "Family Tax Credt", which always results in a refund - even if their tax year state withholding was ZERO. The Feds are accepting illegal's returns too, and are likely allowing the Earned Income Credit - which refunds an average of 3X the amount of withholding. Although Federal Taxpayer I.D. numbers (for illegals) disallow the FEIC, if AMENESTY is passed they will all (20-30 million) get the EIC. Is THIS what you call a TAX BASE??? I call it fiscal suicide.
