Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts is presenting John Lithgow, one of the most recognizable and beloved actors of our generation, for two nights only, Thursday, October 21 at 7:30 PM and Friday, October 22 at 8 PM in his very special One-Man show Stories by Heart.

In his one-man theatrical tour-de-force, Stories by Heart, John Lithgow reveals the healing power of story telling in theatrical tales that span three generations.

Funny, suspenseful and disarming, Lithgow has mastered the art of the tale, flipping the mood in a moment while keeping you on the edge of your seat. His bravura storytelling finds him playing a dozen character roles in this production, simply yet masterfully directed by Jack O’Brien of Hairspray fame.

It is Lithgow’s belief that storytelling is the unacknowledged tie that binds humanity. His selected tales of mischief-makers and tricksters are framed within the context of touching stories from his own family, including helping his ailing father to find his lost enthusiasm for life, a discovery that draws the evening together.

John Lithgow is famous for his roles in the films The World According to Garp, Terms of Endearment (Academy Award nominations for both) and as the voice of Lord Farquaad in Shrek. Add to the mix his long running role as daffy Dick Solomon on the NBC smash hit sitcom 3rd Rock from the Sun and his co-starring part last season as The Trinity Killer on Showtime's Dexter (for which he won Golden Globe and Emmy Awards) and you've just begun to scratch the surface of this one actor's influence on performing arts in the last quarter century

On the stage, he appeared in the musical adaptation of Sweet Smell of Success, winning the 2002 Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical. He again appeared in the musical Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, receiving a 2005 Tony nomination for Best Leading Actor in a Musical. He won his first Tony Award in 1973 as Best Featured Actor in a Play for his Broadway debut in The Changing Room.

The phenomenal Mr. Lithgow has won five Emmy Awards, two Tony Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, an American Comedy Award and two Screen Actors Guild Awards. He has also been nominated twice for the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.

In 2005, he was elected into the American Theatre Hall of Fame for his work on Broadway.

Tickets for the concert event in Virginia G. Piper Theater are $49.00 and $59.00. For more information about John Lithgow Stories by Heart, please contact the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts Box Office directly either by phone at.(480) 994 2787 ext. 2, in person or ONLINE.

Mr. Lithgow is the ultimate clown...without the makeup! He makes me laugh at every turn of his body and face. It is a treat to have him perform at the Center.
