John Lennon was "upbeat, happy" during last album sessions, new book says

After years of not being in the studio, John Lennon and Yoko Ono returned in 1980 to record what became "Double Fantasy."

And according to comments from the musicians in a new book about the sessions by Ken Sharp, Lennon was thrilled to be back.

"John's vibe was 110 percent upbeat, happy, optimistic and positive in the studio. He loved every minute of it," drummer Andy Newmark says in the book, called "Starting Over: The Making of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's 'Double Fantasy'."

"He was in such a good mood all the time," Newmark says. "John and Yoko were always hugging and kissing each other. He was in such a good mood all the time. If we weren't playing, he would always be talking away to whoever was around."

Assistant engineer Julie Last said working with Lennon seemed intimidating at first. "But he was very easygoing and funny and so excited to be back in the studio after five years of being a 'house husband.'"

Sharp called the sessions "a time of rebirth and renewal."

The book is an oral history of the sessions with new interviews with the participants, except for Lennon. Sharp told us he wanted to provide a "fly on the wall" perspective for the reader.

    I really want this book.
I have been knowing about it for two years.
I surprised Ken when inquiring about it.He couldn't figure how I knew.
Nice thing about publications is that publishers often reveal tentative projects years before they come out..
    Good luck Mr Sharp
