John Lennon's life, music and legacy will be enshrined in three time capsules to be sealed later this year and opened on the former Beatle's 100th birthday.
The time capsule project, which will be announced Thursday, is part of a celebration this year of what would have been Lennon's 70th birthday. It will be assembled with the cooperation of Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono. It will be overseen by Jonathan Polk, who created last year's The Beatles Box of Vision. A Lennon Box of Vision will be available this year.
The three capsules, which will divided among the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland and locations in Liverpool and Iceland, will contain his post-Beatles recordings, newly restored art prints of his LP artwork, a newly commissioned essay on his career and other items.
The capsules will also include contributions from Lennon fans, who will also be able to add birthday wishes, commentary, musical performances, personal thoughts or whatever they wish at http://www.BoxOfVision.com/TImeCapsule. Contributions will be taken starting Thursday until Sept. 15, 2010. Fans will also be able to make suggestions there about what the time capsules should contain.
"I am delighted to support this effort to help share John's music and messages of peace and love with the children of today and tomorrow. I know that John's work, life and dreams will help inspire them to bring a better world for everyone. Children Power!", said Yoko Ono in a statement.
“John Lennon's body of work is our time capsule,” Polk said. “It embodies the ideals that once fueled our absolute belief we could change the world…then led to cynical backlash… but now represent how we wish to be remembered. 'The John Lennon Time Capsule' is a gift to our children and grandchildren. It is an effort to pass on those messages of peace and love and personal responsibility; to help ensure that John’s beautiful body of work, what he stood for and how he inspired us, will shine on.”
“John Lennon was one of the most influential figures in rock and roll history," said Jim Henke, Chief Curator at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, "not only in terms of his body of work, but also because of how he used his art and visibility to help make a difference in the world.”

Wow ..I can see it now ..you did say sound performances, 30 years from now they'll be playing music on something that hasn't even been invented yet, they'll be searching high and low to find one of those things from the 80's.........A CD player. :)
If this is meant to be for the future, to show people about John Lennon, it should be about all of his life, not just the time after The Beatles
Can we stick Elliot Mintz in there?
Are those CD images the forthcoming remasters?
Got something to say?
