John Lennon to be honored with candlelight vigil in Hollywood

A candlelight tribute honoring John Lennon will be held at 6 p.m. Dec. 8 at Lennon's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, located in front of the Capitol Records tower, 1750 N. Vine St., Hollywood. The event is sponsored by the Alliance for Survival peace group. The gathering in his memory has become an annual event.

The ceremony will pay tribute to both Lennon's life and the 30th anniversary of his death. The public is invited to bring flowers and candles to place around John's star.

Featured during the ceremony will be the on-site creation of a large John Lennon mural called "Facing the Music" by artist Gregory Adamson. The vocal group the Three of Us will perform a medley of Beatles and Lennon tunes while the artwork is being painted.

"The public gathering is not meant as a time for mourning, but more of a time, 30 years later, to continue celebrating John Lennon's life, music and creative spirit," says event organizer Jerry Rubin.

Three solo Beatles Walk of Fame stars -- for Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr -- are located at the Capitol Records tower. (Paul McCartney doesn't have one only because he has yet to schedule a ceremony for it.) The Beatles star, however, is located at Marshfield Way.
