John Lennon's Original Quarrymen will tour the United States in a special 70th birthday tribute to the former Beatle. It will begin Sept. 23 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark and continue through early October, covering eight states.
The tour stops will include film screenings of pre-Beatle Lennon biodrama "Nowhere Boy" and a brief Q&A session. The tour will conclude in New York City with a special show on Oct. 9, John Lennon's 70th birthday, at the Society for Ethical Culture, across from Central Park, a few blocks south of Strawberry Fields. That show will include several guest artists.
"Nowhere Boy," distributed by the Weinstein Company, which tells the story of John Lennon's upbringing as a teenager and stars Aaron Johnson ("Kick-Ass") as Lennon and Kristen Scott-Thomas as Aunt Mimi, will open across the U.S. on Oct. 8.
"This multi-media package of this touching film, along with the actual participants in the early history of the world’s greatest and most influential rock band of all time, is a most fitting tribute to a complex man such as John Lennon. Hopefully people leaving these shows will come away with a much clearer understanding of this truly special musician and person," said tour organizer Thom Wolke.
