Mark David Chapman, who was convicted of the 1980 murder of John Lennon, was denied parole by the New York State Parole Board today, reports the Smoking Gun and CNN.
The board, as reported by CNN, said in a statement, “A three-member panel of Parole Board Commissioners denied parole to Mark David Chapman following an interview with Chapman this morning."
Chapman is serving a 20 years to life sentence at Attica Correctional Facility. His next parole hearing will be in two years.

Great news. He does not deserve to get out, ever.
Let him out....and see how long he lasts.
Why oh why in this day and age......A life for a life....clear out the scum of the earth......sorry just rambling on. But I truely believe Chapman, and others like him should not be allowed to live a life, whatever kind that should be, while the families of those killed by them grieve forever.
Put him in a cell next to Charles Manson. Let Charles and Davey boy get into each others heads. Talk about Helter Skelter. Then put the biggest baddest horniest guy in a cell between them. Let life take it's course. They deserve each other.
Why is it that Charles Manson is made out to be the worst criminal in history and then brought up each time a fungus like Chapman is in focus? At least Manson never killed anyone like Chapman did.
I miss John. Mr. Chapman is sadly, mentally unbalanced or at least was at the time of the murder. I trust that the parole boars made the correct decision in this case.
Let me start by saying I hope Chapman never gets out of prison. In my opinion, he does not deserve freedom (or attention). May he live a long, long life, tormented every day by his guilt. He has earned it a thousandfold.
But it distresses me to see what people write and say about him - all the time, but especially when his parole hearings come around.
People who have never met him, who know about him only from the media, declare that they wish him to die violently because, in their minds, he has it coming.
This is a hideous irony, considering that Chapman never met Lennon, knew about him only from the media, and murdered him because, in his mind, Lennon had it coming.
To threaten Chapman or wish him harm is to imitate him, and thus to dishonor John's memory.
We're better than that. We're better than Mark David Chapman. We have to be.
You've got to be joking, take that flower out of your a** if your family member was killed cold bloodily shot in the back I'm sure you'd feel different ...I don't have to know this jerk to know he's nuts and should stay in jail and never see the light of day.
I know the two women who met Chapman that weekend. He was as sane as you and I. I don't know why you think he is tormented by guilt. Past parole hearings have cited that he shows no remorse. Please do not defend this piece of filth.
Anonymous - Read my comment again - I AGREE WITH YOU that he "should stay in jail and never see the light of day." That was the first thing I wrote. As for family members gunned down in cold blood - which one are you, Yoko, Sean, or Julian? If John wasn't your personal relative, then what's your point? Most people would demand bloody vengeance for close family members. That's why they don't put them on juries.
NYC gal - I didn't write that he is tormented by guilt; I wrote "May he" be so. Point out what I wrote that was, in any way, "defending" him.
Most Beatles fans, it seems (me included), want Chapman to die in prison. I just don't want to shorten his sentence.
One does not have to be a personal relative of John's to feel a sense of loss. I had met John many times; you do not know who in these comments knew him, worked with him, was a part of his life in some way.
I do not care one iota about John's killer or what his life is like in Attica, except that he should not be set free. It is only for his own good that he stays inside. Look at some of the comments here about MDC not lasting.
I think he should get the death penalty he killed a great, talented ,artistic musician to take over his fame
he should get the electric chair, great birthday present for me today is my birthday
Death penalty, at the time of his crime, was only reserved for those who had killed cops. He plead guiilty and got the max allowed for the laws in 1980.
After what he took from our world; I don't understand why he gets to have parole hearings at all. This was way more than a vicious, pre-meditated killing. This altered history in a harshly, negative way.
I don't understand why this lowlife scum even is brought up before the parole board. Waste of everyone's time and taxpayers money. Throw away the key & let this ass rot for the rest of his pathetic, miserable life! I am more than fed up with seeing & hearing his name being mentioned. He killed our beloved John, a man of peace & this was premeditated. I hope this bastard rots in hell for all eternity.
imagine all the people hating(mark david chapman) for today ha ha ha
