The John Lennon museum in Japan locked its doors for the final time Thursday. A statement announcing the closure was posted on the museum's website.
Here's the full text: "The John Lennon Museum has closed its doors on September 30, 2010 upon the expiration of the license agreement between Ms. Yoko Ono.
"We are pleased to say that the Museum has been loved by everyone, receiving approximately 610,000 visitors from home and around the world for ten years since its opening on October 9, 2000.
"We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to every visitor and everyone involved.
"Though the Museum has closed, we believe that John Lennon's works and spirit will continue to spread around the world.
"Thank you very much for your generous support over the past years. -- John Lennon Museum"

It doesn't seem right that all these 70th birthday celebrations are taking place in a week and they have to shut this just before they happen. If I was a fan in the area I'd be annoyed about that as it seems like this would have been the obvious place to celebrate. Shame they couldn't have worked something out to extend he licence until after his birthday.
Hope they ship the contents to the RnR Hall of Fame for another Lennon special exhibit...
Poor timing. You think anyone thought about this at the time the lease was signed? Let's see, that would be Yoko, Sean... hmmmm. Well, the Museum was a great tribute and for that I thank them. Correction of errors.... Have it in the United States next time. I seem to remember something like a British Invasion - 40+ years of success - A park named in his honor in...New York City!!! Sheesh, no brainer. Makes me just want to get out of my chair and go to Japan and protest. Naw...I will just wait on the Lennon Bus that is sponsored by Gibson Guiitars I think, to come to my town and check that out. Oh yeah, Yoko approved that as well. Hmmmm.... Wonder when that lease/sponsorship is up? Just sayin....
It's my understanding that some of the belongings will be on view at the Grammy Museum in Downtown Los Angeles. I was there this past week and saw them setting up the exhibition with John's 1929 steel guitar his SPLHCB jacket and some hand written lyrics. Come to Los Angeles folk's..we need your tourist $$$$ :)
It's my hope that now that it's been in Japan for so many years that Yoko will share John's belonging with another part of the world.
Happy 70th birthday John Winston Ono Lennon

It was a beautiful museum. I took my then 12 month old son there back in '06. Just a great experience. Many thanks to Yoko for continuing to share John with the world.
