John Lennon Imagine Series Ltd Edition pianos on tour

July 29, 2011 – A Limited edition series of John Lennon’s white “Imagine” piano will go on a one month tour in the northeastern U.S in July and August, reports Steinway Hall. Fans will even be able to play the pianos, which are made in four different design styles. It will be a rare opportunity.

This limited edition series was introduced last fall in commemoration of Lennon’s 70th birthday. It was modeled after the white piano that John gave to his wife Yoko Ono on her birthday in 1971. This is the piano John is shown playing Imagine on in the famous video at Tittenhurst Park in Ascot, England.

(Note: The song itself however, was composed on a different piano, an upright Steinway, which was purchased by George Michael, and displayed in Phoenix, Arizona last year.)

Tour dates include New York, New Jersey and Connecticut:

July 26-30, 2011 – Steinway Piano Gallery of Paramus, NJ

August 2-6, 2011 – Steinway Used Piano Gallery, Melville, NY

August 9-13, 2011 – Steinway Hall, New York City

August 16-20, 2011 – Steinway Piano Gallery of Westport, CT

Yes you can touch -  Unlike most exhibits of actual artifacts, where ropes and signs prevent fans from touching them, during the tour, visitors will be allowed to actually sit down and play the pianos.

Lennon’s art will be on these unique instruments: Yoko Ono participated in the design of the pianos, which incorporates John Lennon’s trademark signature as well as his artwork, music, and lyrics in various places on the instruments. For example, see the Imagine lyrics on the inner rim, and "under the hood" inside the piano. Each piece will have a special medallion that has John Lennon’s Japanese stamp as well as the series name and number. His classic trademarked signature will be visible just above the keyboard.

Only 25 of each style will be made: There are just 25 pianos to be handcrafted in each of the four series designs, and they are custom built at the Steinway & Sons New York and Hamburg factories. These pianos are truly unique and a rare, beautiful item for collectors.

Four different piano designs: Each piano incorporates one of four different John Lennon original drawings.

Come Together exudes the theme of bringing people together.

Grand Piano signifies the process of songwriting.

Freda People reminds us of John's devotion to mankind and freedom of expression.

Self Portrait is John’s own logo image of himself, so widely known.

John Lennon Educational Tour Bus to benefit from sales: A portion of the proceeds from every Imagine piano sold by Steinway & Sons will be donated to The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus .

John's white piano is recognisable globally as an iconic piece of history. Anyone buying one of these will have a life lasting treasure.
