John Henson, son of Muppets creator Jim Henson, is dead at 48

John Henson, son of Muppet creator Jim Henson, has died of a heart attack at the age of 48. According to a Feb. 15 report on Newsday.com, Henson died of a massive heart attack at his home in Saugerties, N.Y., after playing in the snow with his daughter. Henson leaves behind his wife, Gyongi, and two daughters, Katrina, 15, and Sydney, 10.

John Henson was a puppeteer like his father, and he owned shares in the Jim Henson Company, where he served on the board. He followed in his father's footsteps in his life and in his death, meeting a premature end. His father died at the age of 53 but his death was not hear-related but due to organ failure from a strep infection.

John Henson had long been the puppeteer behind the Muppet Sweetums, an ogre. The Muppets have a new movie coming out on March 21, “Most Wanted Muppets,” and they appeared in a Super Bowl commercial for Toyota.
