It should never be said that John Force Racing (JFR) doesn’t have a knack for making news. The high profile team did it again today with an announcement (along with being Tweeted in social media) that Brittany Force will be piloting a Top Fuel dragster, which will be a first for the JFR program. The car will be sponsored by Castrol EDGE and Dean Antonelli will be the crew chief (source: John Force Racing).
The press conference also stated that John Force would indeed race this year in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series as there had been rumors John would step aside to devote his time and efforts on his daughters driving careers. Some had thought that John would step down and Ashley would step into his car but Ashley isn’t stepping anywhere because she expecting a second child (see suggested links).
It was a poorly hidden secret that JFR has been developing a Top Fueler and that Lori and John Force’s middle daughter Brittany would be the driver: she had been testing the car for most of last year.
Like her sisters, the 26 year old Brittany attended Cal State Fullerton attaining her teaching credentials. Also, like her siblings, she drove a Top Alcohol car (A Fueler) for Jerry Darian over the past several seasons (sponsored by Brand Source).
She has been a bit of a renegade in the past, not always devoting her time or pursuing the same goals her older sister Ashley or younger sister Courtney have done in becoming history making professional Funny Car drivers. Brittany had taken up teaching and has shunned or avoided working for her father’s company; but this commitment to being a full-time Top Fuel driver will leave little time for much else.
Powered by a Ford BOSS 500 powerplant, joining Antonelli’s Top Fuel crew will be assistant crew chief Eric Lane who worked with Jimmy Prock on Robert Hight’s JFR Auto Club Funny Car in the past. This will be the first Top Fuel car ever to come out of the JFR stables since up until now, they had strictly been a Funny Car team. Brittany and her Top Fuel team will debut February 14th at the Winternationals at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, California.
