John Edwards to undergo surgery for life threatening heart condition (Photos)

Greensboro, North Carolina – Former North Carolina senator, John Edwards, 58, has a life threatening heart condition requiring a medical procedure in February that will limit his travel which includes an upcoming court case over allegations of campaign violations.

Edwards is accused of concealing nearly $1million in cash and checks from wealthy donors who allegedly helped to hide his pregnant mistress during his run for the White House in 2008.

It was in 2010, when Edwards confessed he had fathered a baby girl, Frances Quinn Hunter, born to his ex-mistress, Rielle Hunter. He had previously denied her as his daughter after having admitted to cheating on his wife Elizabeth with Hunter. It was that same year when John and Elizabeth legally separated and later divorced.

His wife Elizabeth who was first diagnosed with incurable breast cancer in 2004, died on December 7, 2010 at her home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. When it was revealed that Elizabeth left her husband John out of her will it made headlines.

Law school sweethearts who married in the summer of 1977, the couple had four children together that included a son who died at age 16.
