John Edward Jones, 26, was stuck in the Nutty Putty cave at Stansbury Park in Utah for over 24 hours before he died around midnight on Thursday. Stansbury Park is located 28 miles west of Salt Lake City. Wednesday morning, Jones was trapped in the cave upside down and had difficulty comprehending what was going on around him. Rescuers are hoping to get Jones' body out of the cave by 11 am Thursday.
Wednesday morning, rescuers were able to get him on his side so that he at least had proper blood flood to his head. The crevice in the cave was about 18” wide and 10” deep, and there was no room for moving easily.
"They had him to a level spot where he wasn't heading downhill with his head below his feet," Spencer Cannon from the Utah County sheriff’s office said and CNN reported. "During the course of that, they have a raising system to hold him in position, and one of the devices of that system failed, and Mr. Jones actually fell back to the area where he had been stuck for so long."
Rescuers tried to get to Jones for 24 hours, but were unable to get close because of the tightly confined space, but they were able to talk to him and help him move very slowly. Jones had a difficult time breathing and died Thursday morning.

John Jones was visiting his family in Stansbury Park, but the cave is located close to Elberta, Utah, near Utah Lake.
