Neither the limited parking spaces, a long line of people ahead of them, nor the threats of rain dampened the spirits of attendees of Sac-Con who wanted to meet voice actor John DiMaggio and get his autograph.
Taking place March 3 at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center, hundreds of attendees paid the $6 admission to take part of Sacramento's comic, anime, and toy show. They perused the various toy and comic booths while purchasing any merchandise that tickled their fandoms. Dotting the center were cosplayers who posed for photos while dressed in various outfits from their favorite series. And of course, there were the talented guests of honor who were on hand to sign autographs. In addition to John DiMaggio, other guests of Sac-Con included voice actor DC Douglas and a plethora of comic artists.
An hour before Mr. DiMaggio's first autograph session at noon, the serpentine line had wrapped around the bowels of the Scottish Rite Center before snaking outside. Each person had items from “Adventure Time,” “Futurama,” “Gears of War,” or a combination of above. Additionally, those who attended Sac-Con received a free “Adventure Time” print created by Dan Bereton, Tone Rodriguez, and Mike Hampton. John DiMaggio would autograph one item for free and additional items were $20 each.
While Sac-Con warned attendees that audio or video recording would be verboten, this convention was still a fun opportunity for fans and collectors to meet such talent in person. John was certainly friendly to his fans as he signed autographs, recalled the famous lines of his voiced characters, and thanked them for coming to see him. As the one day convention ended, attendees are left to wonder which talent wil Sac-Con on June 2.
