The Doors/Record Store Day

John Densmore is pulling out all the stops and using his celebrity to call fans attention to Record Store Day. Appearing this past Thursday at a press conference with Chuck D of Public Enemy who is this year’s Record Store Day ambassador.

Densmore’s participation with Record Store Day has been quite visible since the launch of his book “The Doors Unhinged” last year on Record Store Day. Not only did Densmore have a signing on last year’s Record Store Day he has had most of his signings at independent record stores and this year for the release of the French edition of “The Doors Unhinged” will be making several appearances in France for Record Store or rather Disquaire Day festivities in France (see related articles below).

To help further awareness of Record Store Day Densmore appeared with Chuck D at a press conference this past Thursday, March 21 and they talked about the virtues and values of independent record stores. Densmore cited the record stores as a place for fans to make contact and connected mentioning a couple he met that had first met at a record store. Densmore also mentioned the diversity of music you’re still able to find at the independent stores. Chuck D (who said “the D stands for Densmore”) also mentioned the social implications of independent stores and that they were “cultural libraries” and how artists he discovered in record stores had influenced him.

The Doors as a group are also participating in Record Store Day with a vinyl re-release of “Weird Scenes Inside the Goldmine.”

Record Store Day is on April 19 this year and you can find a list of participating record stores at the Record Store Day website. Amoeba Music has put online a full listing of Record Store Day participating artists and their releases.
