John Daly secured his spot in the 2014 RBC Heritage via a sponsor exemption but the popular golfer drew a larger crowd than many of the top-ranked golfers who braved the wind and cool temperatures during Wednesday’s Pro-Am. Daly was easy to spot with his long white hair, multi-colored pants and bright yellow shirt on the Hilton Head Island course.
“He’s just like the guys I play with at home only a better golfer,” one fan in the Wednesday crowd commented as he watched Daly who appeared to be enjoying the day. Daly also played in the Pro-Am Monday where his team took third place.
The amateur golfers playing with Daly had their own share of fans following their foursome and enjoying the day. About 20 people were there to support Mark Squires, an amateur from Rochester, N.Y., who birdied the first hole to the loud cheers of family and friends.
Daly will likely have a large gallery when he tees off Thursday morning with TOUR professionals Paul Goydos and Richard H. Lee the Harbour Town Links Course on Hilton Head Island.
