John Conyers: Obamacare "platform" to socialized health care

In a stunning admission, Congressman John Conyers (D-MI) said Obamacare - the massive health care law Washington Senator Patty Murray helped write - is a "platform" for what can only be described as government-controlled health care.

Speaking at the National Press Club on Monday, Conyers - the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee - said he voted for the massive bill because he saw it as a step in creating a single-payer health-care system in the United States.

Conyers spoke with a reporter from CNS News, and said:

What we’re trying to do is insure everybody, right? We’re trying to insure more people, not less and so it’s my feeling that the rising costs that are going on will not be solved by getting rid of people’s health insurance--that throws them into emergency rooms and charity and other things. That’s why HR 676 is our ultimate solution--is that everybody’s insured from birth on and that’s what we’re still fighting for.”

CNSNews.com then asked Conyers, “Do you see a single-payer health care system ultimately in the United States?”

“Of course," he said. "Universal health care--well, every industrial country on the planet already has a universal system of health care.”

Ed Morrissey of Hot Air notes that the economics of the law are already proving to be a disaster, and writes:

As we have said all along, the entire structure is designed for failure. It’s a Trojan horse for an eventual government takeover of health care in the vacuum of a collapse in health insurance, forced into failure through government regulation. Conyers simply confirms this long-term strategy.

The House of Representatives has already voted to repeal the law, and a federal judge has ruled it unconstitutional, however, Democrats are determined to implement it.

Last December, Politifact called government takeover of health care the "Lie of the Year." Maybe they should revisit that claim.
