British native John Boyega admits it was a challenge keeping all the ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ details under wraps leading up to the film’s premiere, and now the 23-year-old is preparing to go under lock and key again as filming kicks off for ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII.’
“[We’re] just starting work on ‘Star Wars VIII,’ the next film, so I’m back to keeping secrets again,” he told Vogue. “It’s great,” he added. “Much darker, but we’re very excited.” Boyega didn’t have much physical preparation for his role as Finn in ‘The Force Awakens,’ but the next installment will require more the actor to lift some iron. Boyega revealed, “My part in the next film will be much more physical so I might be in the gym a bit more."
Despite becoming a household name since the release of ‘Force Awakens,’ Boyega assures he still lives a very normal life. "When I found out I had the part, the overwhelming feeling was of relief,” he said. “I'd been auditioning for seven months so it was just unbelievable to think, yes, finally I know for sure I'm going to be in this film. In terms of what's changed, my life back home in London is still pretty normal. I mostly drove everywhere around where I live even before I got that part, so that has meant my life just goes on as normal.”
Rian Johnson is directing ‘Star Wars: Episode VII,’ which is set for a May 26, 2017 release.
